Assistant Director of Student Success

The Assistant Director of Student Success position serves as a first-year success coach and an assistant to the Director with career services and retention initiatives. The role is relational, engaging, teaching, and supporting CUNE students from the time of confirmation through their first semester of coursework, with a handoff to faculty advisors in their academic program/department of study. The position collaborates with admissions and student life to ensure a positive enrollment and orientation process with lower melt rates, a supportive first-year transition to college, a clear pathway to academic program selection, a successful early career development process, and achievement of institutional student retention goals. This position provides initial academic advising and builds a network of relationships and experiential opportunities that bond students with the institution and lead to academic and career success. Must be at least 19 years of age to apply.
Responsibilities
Facilitates enrollment, registration, and orientation process, including collection of enrollment documents, initial academic planning, and advising services.
Develop and implement engagement strategies with all confirmed new students and their parents, including programming to engage other faculty, staff, alumni, and current students in making new students\' transition to Concordia personal, professional, and positive.
Answers first-year student inquiries and resolves problems related to curriculum and course prerequisites, referring to online catalogues, written course descriptions, and other appropriate sources.
Connects students with campus activities and resources such as counseling, academic support, ADA, and tutoring as needed.
Provides ongoing advisement for first-year students and initiates appropriate second-semester transitions to faculty advisors.
Assists freshman students in developing academic plans and major declarations by identifying strengths, interests, skills, and talents.
Acquaints students with advising materials such as the university catalogue, DegreeWorks, and other resources like the Portal, campus email, and blackboard training.
Initiates course add/drop and withdrawal actions on behalf of first-year students, communicating with academic support services, financial aid, and program directors as appropriate.
Supports the SOAP process and Care Team by contacting first-year advisees who are identified through this process as needed.
Teaches First Year Experience class(es) and coordinates the delivery of presentations within the curriculum, including early career and major exploration activities.
Works with current retention strategies and reports and follows up with unregistered students.
Collaborates with admissions and student life offices on special events such as Jump Start, LAUNCH, and first-year engagement initiatives.
Meets occasionally with prospective students during campus visits when they have an undeclared academic program interest.
Meets or exceeds established goals for first-year retention, student engagement, and successful transfers to faculty advisors.
Assist with aspects of the Career Services program.
Assist with tracking retention data and development of retention strategies.
Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Student Life for student engagement programming and implementation.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree with a liberal arts background required; master\'s degree relevant to position preferred.
Experience
Experience in higher education preferred.
Experience relevant to position functions preferred, including experience in enrollment, teaching, advising or counseling.
Experience with, and passion for, mentoring high risk, first generation or minority students.

Ability to communicate professionally and build relationships with a diverse constituency.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
Understanding of customer service principles and generational service needs.
