Job Description
As a Staff Product Owner (SPO) within BD’s pharmacy automation portfolio, you will define and prioritize the product backlog, translate product marketing strategies into software requirements, and drive value delivery within their functional team. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to document requirements with acceptance criteria on a daily basis, test and validate new releases with beta customers, triage and remediate defects, and partner with Product Managers, Software Delivery Leaders, and CoreTeams to manage portfolio scoping and release coordination activities.
Key Responsibilities
Create, order, and manage the backlog of software features, user stories, and product defects to ensure that the work defined for the team is meaningful to the customer, yet realistic and attainable for the development teams.
Champion product quality via constant collaboration with the engineering and QA teams to ensure timely, quality delivery of product increments.
Manage the software requirement engineering process, in partnership with Systems Engineering, throughout the software development life cycle, including eliciting, documenting, analyzing, and harmonizing functional and non‑functional requirements.
Support sprint planning and reviews, feature and user story estimation, and incremental delivery in tight collaboration with Customers, Product Managers, Engineering, and Quality.
Play an active role in mitigating impediments impacting successful team completion of Release and Sprint Goals, providing governance for change management, and leading adjustments to plan.
Facilitate scoping of software requirements to align between product road‑maps and deliverables.
Support SW Quality in test planning by ensuring the testability of requirements and supporting the review of test cases and defects, as needed.
Lead verification and validation with user acceptance for their cross‑functional project team, including protocol writing, execution, and reporting. Support beta launch activities, which include site selection, creating our definition for success, and documenting outcomes.
Support hand‑over of design to manufacturing and service.
May include some third line support to diagnose and resolve production issues, assist teams in removing obstacles, and ensuring overall success of product deliverables.
Execute work within company processes and procedures including engineering tools (requirement management, escalation management, etc), Design Controls, Product Lifecycle Management, Configuration Management, Phase Reviews.
Act as a key contributor in a complex environment and work independently with minimal guidance.
Contribute to Intellectual Property generation that protects the portfolio and improves market position.
Share expertise with others.
Follow our competitors and our industry; keep abreast with Agile/Scrum standard processes and new trends.
Represent our function in a cross‑functional team to define program resource needs and project plans necessary to execute the required and prioritized work within the platform/portfolio.
Contribute to an integrated R&D product development project plan to deliver and execute efficiently and with sound quality.
Lead system design reviews for assigned portfolio, gather inputs from other functions.
Skills And Experience
Must have a bachelor’s degree.
B.S.: 7+ years of experience in technical area.
M.S.: 4+ years of experience in technical area.
Ph.D.: 2+ years of experience in technical area.
In‑depth knowledge of Agile process and principles; experience working in Lean/Agile software development teams; experience operating within design control.
Experience in or ability to leverage Product Management and Development tools such as AzureDevOps, Aha!, Jira, or equivalent.
Outstanding communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Sharp analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Creative thinker with a vision.
Attention to detail.
Domain experience in Pharmacy or Healthcare is a plus.
This position may require up to 20% domestic/international travel.
