Position Description The Aquatic Center Coordinator position reports to an Aquatics Zone Operations Manager. This role is responsible for professional, administrative, and supervisory duties relating to planning, directing, organizing, and operation of the aquatic facility. The Aquatic Center Coordinator will be responsible for carrying out the day‑to‑day operations while providing comprehensive and balanced aquatics programs and services to diverse communities.

Job Responsibilities

Manage the day‑to‑day operations of the aquatics center by determining work priorities, developing guidelines and deadlines, directing supervisory personnel and delegating assignments.

Recruit and retain a diverse workforce. Hire, train, discipline and evaluate personnel. Coach and mentor employees, building cohesive teams and conducting staff training.

Prepare and submit area budgets and monitor fiscal activity to assure conformity with established budget constraints. Seek to acquire alternative funding through state and federal grants. Generate revenues through self‑funding programs. Coordinate and supervise purchases, expenditures, and supplies.

Coordinate comprehensive, diverse, and inclusive recreation, fitness and aquatics programs for seniors, adults, and youth, including swim lessons, special events, swim leagues/tournaments, fitness programs, instructional programming to include coordinating events with external organizations.

Study, analyze, and interpret aquatic and recreation and aquatics needs and resources. Develop and implement marketing strategy for the facility and develop pricing strategies for new programs.

Coordinate the maintenance and use of the facility enforcing rules and regulations to ensure a safe, pleasant environment for patrons, monitoring the general activities of patrons to ensure compliance with rules and regulations, and ensuring appropriate risk management of the facility and programs.

Plan and implement comprehensive water safety, lifeguarding, chemical safety, maintenance and personal safety training for staff. Act as the hazardous chemical site manager. Perform lifeguard and instructional duties as required.

Oversee sales, registrations, rental of the facility, computer registration program, daily admissions, scholarship procedures, and all other aspects of cash flow procedures. Maintain records and reports regarding program operations, budgets, cash accounts, and safety.

Oversee customer service investigating and resolving complaints or inquiries from employees and patrons concerning the operations of the facility, handling confrontational situations appropriately, assist with the operations of the front counter to ensure maximum customer service results.

Provide administrative support by answering questions, providing responses to community member and staff concerns and comments, maintaining correspondence with other divisions or agencies, interfacing with community groups, attending assigned advisory council meetings, and actively promoting the facility throughout the community through speaking engagements, guest appearances, etc.

Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Recreation Administration, Physical Education or a related field with two years increasingly responsible lifeguard experience as a qualified lifeguard, including some experience involving pool operation or pool management (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

Desired Qualifications

Three years of experience supervising and/or managing an aquatic facility and staff.

Two years’ experience working with community groups and organizations.

Two years’ experience working with Windows based office software; ActiveNet or other recreation registration software.

Bilingual or Multilingual.

Other aquatics experience to include wading pool, spray park, beach, and small craft operations.

Knowledge of local, state and federal laws concerning recreational activities and pool safety.

Knowledge of City codes, ordinances, rules and regulations.

Knowledge of pool maintenance and operations related to mechanical, pumps, winterization, and any other maintenance related operation.

License, Certification and Other Requirements

American Red Cross (ARC) approved certification for: Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Lifeguard.

Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or equivalent (ARC WSI required to be completed within six months of hire if equivalent course is accepted at time of hire).

The Northwest Lifeguard Preparation Course and Test Certification (required to pass within three months of hire).

Current Washington State driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility required.

Salary Range The full salary range for this position is $43.08 - $50.24 per hour.
