Electrical Project Engineer – Substation – US Hybrid
Join Black & Veatch to lead and execute high‑voltage substation projects across the United States. As a hybrid team member, you will deliver detailed design, coordinate with clients and vendors, and mentor junior engineers while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a technical specialist or project lead on substation projects up to 765 kV, providing detailed design and engineering coordination.
Develop protection and control design deliverables, including relay panels, one‑line and three‑line diagrams, schematics, and wiring for high‑voltage substation systems.
Prepare physical design deliverables such as yard layout, grounding, lightning protection, control building arrangements, and auxiliary AC/DC power systems.
Perform quality reviews of electrical substation design packages and support construction coordination.
Provide guidance, mentorship and support to junior team members and business development activities.
Prepare and manage design budgets, schedules, and communication with clients, vendors and other stakeholders.
Travel to client and vendor offices, and project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
High‑voltage (HV) substation design experience – protection & controls and physical design.
Project lead and technical specialist experience overseeing utility substation clients and projects.
QA/QC review experience.
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office programs.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited program.
Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for Black & Veatch projects.
Hybrid Work Expectations This role is hybrid with three in‑office days and two flex/remote days per week. Candidates located or willing to relocate to any Black & Veatch U.S. regional office may be considered.
