The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.

HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA’s various social service programs. Its functions include facilities planning, design, construction, renovation, repair, maintenance, custodial and building services, health/safety coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS also plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.

The Bureau of Printing and Distribution Services includes the Print and Mail Distribution units, providing production and mail processing, high-resolution digital printing, copying, collating, binding, packing, and distribution of materials such as letters, forms, brochures, manuals, newsletters, pamphlets, flyers, directories, and other publications.

We are recruiting for an Assistant Printing Press Operator to function as Machine Leader, who will:

Interface with USPS utilizing Coding Accuracy Support System (CASS) & Presort Accuracy Validation and Evaluation (PAVE), maintain mailing list correction documentation, and ensure proper presorting according to USPS rules.

Prepare mailing documents across various systems, operate production mail inserting equipment, load barcodes, and set up machines for different envelope types.

Train staff on mailing equipment and systems.

Maintain USPS reports and move updates via various data transfer methods.

Operate mail inserter PC controllers, configure jobs, and notify supervisors of issues.

Produce job work orders, ensure correct mailing specifications, and document completed jobs.

Generate productivity reports for management.

Process negotiable documents following agency policies.

Supervise staff, prioritize work, manage attendance, and provide ongoing training.

Hours: Normal Business Hours. Location: 10300 Foster Ave, Brooklyn NY 11236.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent and three years of full-time experience operating a cylinder-type offset printing press; or

Equivalent education and/or experience.

Preferred Skills

Five years’ experience operating production mail inserting equipment from manufacturers such as Gunther, Bell & Howell, BlueCrest, and Pitney Bowes.

Experience with bindery equipment, USPS CASS and PAVE reports, and ability to lift heavy boxes.
