The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) State Equipment Fleet is looking for a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive-Advanced-Journey/Lead to help us Keep Alaska Moving!
Responsibilities
Professionally maintain all heavy-duty and light duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports and other user agency vehicles in the area.
Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods. Perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment.
Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify systems including transmissions, drivetrains, suspension, engine and emission, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems including air and electrical for light and heavy-duty equipment.

Working Environment The Anchorage HD shop is located at 5420 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Anchorage, AK. Traveling in small planes to maintain equipment in remote locations is possible; travel consists of day trips and overnight stays.

Who We Are Looking For Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the core competencies below:
Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
Flexibility: Open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles.
Vehicle Maintenance: Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance.
Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; demonstrates initiative and commitment; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.
Applications and Documentation Documents required at time of interview: a copy of your Class A CDL (front and back, if applicable) and three professional references with name, title, and phone number.
Supplemental Questions This recruitment uses a supplemental questionnaire as part of the application process. Your answers will determine which applicants advance to the interview phase.
Commercial Driver’s License Required This position requires a Class A CDL per federal regulations (49 CFR 383). You must register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties and consent to review driver information as required by 49 CFR 382. A Class A CDL is required for this position. A conditional hire may be given to applicants who do not yet possess a Class A CDL if they obtain it within 120 days and sign an agreement as a condition of employment.
Drug and Alcohol Policy Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and cannot start work in a CDL position until confirmation of passing the required pre-employment drug test is received. Federal violations and refusals will be kept in the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse database.
Tool Allowance Employees in this position are required to provide their own hand tools and will receive a bi-weekly tool allowance as determined by LTC contract. Your manager will review this after hire.
