State of Alaska What you will be doing Professionally maintain all heavy-duty and light duty equipment and vehicles associated with the construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports and other user agency vehicles being operated in the area. Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods; perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment. Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify the following systems: transmissions, drivetrains, suspension, engine and emission, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems including air and electrical for light and heavy-duty equipment. Travel to remote locations by small planes is possible; travel consists of day trips and overnight stays. Who we are looking for Education We seek candidates who possess some or all of the following position-specific competencies. Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the core competencies of: Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repair, and maintenance. Flexibility: Is open to change and new information; rapidly adapts to new information, changing conditions, or unexpected obstacles. Vehicle Maintenance: Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including their design, uses, repair and maintenance. Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior. Minimum qualifications and additional information Minimum qualifications and a general description of duties are available in the official class specifications and the job posting. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) This position requires a Class A Alaska CDL. A conditional hire approval may be given to applicants who do not yet possess a Class A CDL, with the requirement to obtain it within 120 days of hire and to sign an agreement as a condition of employment. Drug and Alcohol policy Selected candidates must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and may be subject to pre-employment drug testing. Tool allowance Employees are required to provide their own hand tools and may receive a monthly tool allowance, determined by position. Education and foreign credentials Education verification is required. If you have not obtained a degree, indicate the number of units completed. Transcripts (unofficial acceptable at application) may be attached or provided before employment. Foreign education may be evaluated for equivalence as described in the job posting.
