Electrical Control Engineer Location:
Dallas, NC Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Provide technical and engineering support for automated industrial machinery and industrial electronic controls. Read, create, and modify electrical schematics according to IEC and NFPA standards. Read, create, and modify fluid power (hydraulics and pneumatics) schematics according to IEC and NFPA standards. Read, create, and modify P&ID schematics according to IEC and NFPA standards. Read, create, and modify programming code in languages including Siemens SCL, Siemens Statement List, Siemens Graph 7, Siemens Function Block Diagram (FBD), Ladder Logic (Siemens, Allen Bradley and others), Allen Bradley Structured Text, Visual Basic, C++, C#, Java, Python, Microsoft SQL, and others. Read, create, and modify database tables in MSSQL Server. Read, create, and modify HMI programs for Siemens, Allen Bradley, and other HMI platforms (WinCC Flex, Panel Builder 32). Read, create, and modify SCADA programs for Siemens WinCC and Inductive Automation. Install, commission, repair, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and related equipment. Install, commission, repair, and troubleshoot industrial communications media and protocols. Install, commission, repair, and troubleshoot a wide range of industrial machinery. Upgrade and retrofit obsolete controls with no direct replacements, modifying existing equipment as needed. Demonstrate exemplary troubleshooting skills to repair machinery from various manufacturers. Properly use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, megohmmeters, process calibrators, thermal imagers, vibration analyzers, and data loggers. Source materials for projects and repairs and coordinate with maintenance inventory to acquire needed materials in a timely manner. Train technicians and apprentices in process instrumentation calibration, programming code and logic, troubleshooting practices for electrical control systems, and fluid power systems. Perform all duties with minimal outside support and ensure work is performed safely with appropriate PPE. Work remotely and travel with tools to multiple locations as needed. Serve as a resource to production staff across departments and facilities. Support company efforts to develop and maintain positive Employee Relations. Supervisory Responsibilities
Responsible for training and supervising the mechatronics/controls technician apprentice(s). Occasionally train and supervise seasonal interns. Education And/Or Experience
Associate of Applied Science from an accredited college in Electronics Engineering or Computer Science with emphasis on Programming, or equivalent experience and certifications. 10+ years direct experience in industrial automation. Certification in programming preferred (e.g., Siemens or Allen Bradley). State-issued electrical trades license preferred. Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical (preferred). Language Skills
Read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, mechanical and electrical schematics, and machine drawings. Read, analyze, and interpret programming code documented in languages other than English. Read, analyze, and interpret regulatory and technical documents. Provide clear written instructions and easy-to-understand operating procedures. Mathematical Skills
Apply advanced mathematical concepts and perform analyses relevant to the role (e.g., exponents, logarithms, equations, statistical concepts). Reasoning Ability
Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret programming logic and various instructions in mathematical or diagram form; handle abstract and concrete variables. Other Skills And Abilities
Organized and able to archive documents and drawings. Eager to grow the role and contribute to the team. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with employees, colleagues, and management. Independent worker with the ability to collaborate in a team. Strong understanding of NFPA 70 International Electrical Code. Work Environment
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, or electrical hazards. Possible exposure to extreme heat, cold, wet or humid conditions, and vibrations. Noise level typically loud. Support manufacturing operations to ensure continuous production, including production reporting and housekeeping. Seniority level
