Location: Kingsport, Tennessee. This role is ideal for someone with experience with AISC, ACI, steel structures such as pipe racks and process structures, concrete foundations, concrete structures.

Job Summary Generally responsible for performing all aspects for a complete design of small and large civil/structural engineering assignments using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This work will be performed under general supervision.

This is a full-time, long-term opportunity as part of Hargrove's Technical Services team, offering a highly competitive compensation package, including paid time off, health insurance benefits, and matching retirement contributions. Relocation support may be available for those who qualify.

Primary Responsibilities Will Include

Familiarity with and utilizing department design and drafting standards.

Familiarity with project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team.

Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving engineering tasks.

Producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of the estimate being performed on a project.

Producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction associated with the project.

Producing designs with efficient use of construction materials with an overall emphasis on ease of construction and meeting client expectations.

Checking calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and conformance to codes and design criteria.

Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems; furnishing sufficient sketches and details for completion of drawings.

Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure smooth flow of vital information for project completion.

Advising the senior engineer on design or scope changes identified.

Assisting other engineers in developing scopes, drawings and specifications into a package for procurement of materials or subcontract pricing.

Reviewing and checking vendor drawings for civil/structural input; developing construction specifications.

Reviewing fabrication drawings and submittals for conformance to drawings and specifications.

Performing fieldwork to gather field data, check tie-ins and provide construction support.

Providing technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.

Able to lead small to medium size teams in coordinating civil/structural efforts and keeping the team focused on scope, schedule, and budget.

Developing small work sharing packages for interoffice execution support.

Ideal Background Education:

Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required. Structural coursework is required for structural engineering positions.

Experience:

3+ years of relevant industrial experience in civil/structural engineering.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge and application of the International Building Code and associated standards (ASCE, AISC, ACI, etc.).

Expertise with civil/structural analysis software including operating and interpreting results.

Knowledge of discipline-specific methods, practices and techniques required to engineer, design and construct process and manufacturing projects.

Able to lead a small to medium team to deliver on commitments.

Working knowledge of CAD software, either AutoCAD, Microstation or both.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
