Early Career Structural Engineer

for our

Tacoma, WA

office. Be involved in projects with the

Mountain Pacific Transportation Engineering Team

and contribute to a growing organization that meets client objectives and solves challenges. Provide local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of building and infrastructure projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic research, design, concept development, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements such as buildings, bridges, roadways, and mechanical structures. Generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensure responsibilities are delivered to meet or exceed industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality. Your Impact

Under general supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other sources for project development, design, and construction. Assist with performing basic professional structural engineering work related to researching and inspecting proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits. Perform routine engineering functions and provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality of end-users, systems, and infrastructure. Assist with verifying site characteristics and providing basic technical assistance to ensure structural soundness from loads and pressures. Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, 2D/3D illustrations, and field logs. Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures including data collection, engineering studies, surveys, and construction. Complete training on assigned tasks. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies. Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs. Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline. 0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience. Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset. Familiarity with design/build concepts. Familiarity with relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, and record-keeping requirements. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for both engineering and non-engineering audiences. Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment. Ability to work independently under general supervision, and as part of a team. Basic proficiency with technical writing, office software, spreadsheets, and tools. Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS). Proven track record of workplace safety and ability to comply with health, safety, and harassment policies. Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek; occasional travel may be required. Preferred Qualifications

Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification. Prior internship related to the degree and discipline. Active participation in local professional practice organizations. WSP Benefits

Expected Salary (all locations): $56,300 - $92,900 About WSP
