Overview Radiation Therapist Level 1 - Per Diem at JFK University Medical Center, Edison, New Jersey.

Responsibilities

Deliver ionizing radiation to treat patients in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription and Simulation Instructions.

Ensure safe and effective execution of the prescribed radiation therapy course, assess images, and perform diagnostic and interventional procedures as needed.

Operate and document in ARIA and other EMR systems; verify informed consent before simulation and before delivering initial treatment.

Escort patients to treatment, position using immobilization devices per Simulation Setup notes, obtain and evaluate images, and implement corrective measures as necessary.

Deliver treatment as prescribed; complete charting in CT Sim and daily treatment in ARIA; navigate Epic as needed to track patient status and transfer orders.

Prepare treatment room and equipment; inform and instruct patients regarding procedures, schedules, and care paths.

Perform QA and morning warm-ups on Linac and CT Sim, verify energy outputs, perform CBCT, KV/MV imaging, isocenter and couch QA, and laser QA.

Conduct pre-treatment chart checks, ensure documents are signed, and complete tasks prior to patient treatment.

Maintain accurate treatment records, including any changes to the plan; co-sign electronic charts as required; maintain knowledge of ARIA and Encounters processing.

Simulate treatment portals using CT simulator for field localization and verification; prepare immobilization devices and ancillary treatment items as directed by the dosimetrist/physicist.

Document precise treatment machine setup instructions; place marks, tattoos, and landmarks for reproducibility.

Operate and record QA procedures for Treatment Machines, CT simulator, CBCT, and treatment accessories.

Assist with care management activities in compliance with accreditation/regulatory bodies (e.g., Joint Commission, ACRO, ACR, NJDOH, NJDEP).

Maintain timely daily treatment schedules; coordinate with patient transportation and care floors.

Review treatment plans prior to delivery; ensure dosimetry and physics notes are present; perform two-therapist initial chart checks and verify plan consistency in ARIA.

Educate patients about radiation treatment care, skin care, and dietary considerations; assess and respond to patient needs and concerns; provide educational materials at treatment start.

Follow policies and procedures of the Radiation Oncology Department and Hospital; participate in on-call schedule as needed.

Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Adhere to HMH organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.

Graduate from an approved Radiation Therapy Program.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred

Minimum of 1 year of experience with Varian equipment / TrueBeam / ARIA.

True Beam and CT anatomy experience.

Licenses and Certifications

Radiation Therapy License.

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certification - ARRT (T).

Compensation Minimum rate of $43.63 hourly. The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good faith estimate of the minimum base pay at the time of posting and may reflect the broader total rewards package.
