Essential Job Functions

NURSE CONSULTATION (25%)

– Perform comprehensive, complex TB case management services: provide high-quality public health nursing services; offer expert consultation to regional and local health department nurses on DSHS treatment standards and case management protocols; monitor and manage TB cases, LTBI, and contacts; oversee delivery of TB services; implement case management plans; ensure adherence to timelines and protocols.

CASE MANAGEMENT/INVESTIGATIONS (25%)

– Conduct clinical/field/home visits to assess adherence; manage patient records and reports; supervise field nurses; coordinate with infection control to ensure proper reporting of TB cases and lab results; institute appropriate TB regimens and monitor outcomes.

EMPLOYEE HEALTH (20%)

– Oversee regional employee health; coordinate with Regional Medical Director and Regional Managers; perform annual FIT testing and staff training; serve as Regional Safety Officer during activations; provide DOT training with Lead Investigator.

QUALITY ASSURANCE (15%)

– Participate in QA activities including record audits and on-site visits; ensure TB program compliance with guidelines, SDOs, and surveillance standards.

COMMUNICABLE DISEASE SUPPORT (10%)

– Assist with epidemiologic investigations and outbreak response; participate in seasonal flu clinics; provide clinical care as requested; adhere to regional standing orders.

OTHER DUTIES (5%)

– Perform other duties as assigned, may include disaster response/COOP activation; may require alternate shift patterns and extended hours; travel as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Knowledge of professional nursing theory and process, including cultural, social, and economic factors in families and communities.

Knowledge of Texas State Board of Nursing Practice Rules and Regulations.

Knowledge of Public Health principles, epidemiology, disease prevention, and health promotion.

Knowledge of TB treatment guidelines and infection control practices.

Knowledge of DSHS Tuberculosis Program standards and procedures.

Proficiency with PCs, networking, and Microsoft Office.

Ability to conduct clinical assessments, perform case analysis, and communicate effectively.

Ability to perform phlebotomy, administer immunizations, and manage medications and test procedures related to TB care.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team; travel-ready; maintain confidentiality.

Registration Or Licensure Requirements

Must be Registered Nurse in Texas or registered in a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Valid Texas Driver's License.

Initial Selection Criteria

At least one (1) year of nursing experience.

Experience as an RN working independently with TB patient care or disease case management (preferred).

Additional Information The posted salary range is the full range for this position. Final offers depend on budget and qualifications. Some duties require travel across the 16 counties in Public Health Region 6/5S and to the DSHS main campus in Austin. Travel is typically scheduled in advance.
