Diagnose, perform surgery, and treat patients. Maintain excellent client communication and record all pertinent medical, client, and case-related information in the patient record accurately with appropriate grammar and terminology. Review medical records, estimates, or discharge instructions with clients; call clients for follow up and to discuss results. Set standards of care and protocols for medical and surgical areas; mentor team members in the training program for career advancement and personal development. Work in collaboration with the practice manager for administrative management; provide leadership and training to the medical support staff. Provide input to the hospital manager for 360-degree employee performance evaluations; lead and establish a vision for the practice team. Demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations and in a fast-paced environment; provide care during medical crises; perform injections (SQ, IM, IV) and administer commonly used medications with client explanations. Proficiency across skills including laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental, and nursing; ensure proper anesthesia monitoring and recovery as needed; extend extubation and recovery support for hospitalized patients. Maintain mental processes for reasoning, memory, mathematics, and language abilities to perform duties; become proficient in the practice management software. Required Education and Experience
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or related degree from an accredited university prior to position start date. Licensure must be in good standing to practice in the state. Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds (and over 50 pounds with assistance). Endure sitting, standing, and walking on hard floors for extended periods; ambulatory skills for work in a hospital environment. Work in noisy conditions with sounds from animals and equipment; exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medications/controlled substances. Ability to hear verbal instructions and client discourse; vision requirements including close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment; good hand-eye coordination for equipment operation.
