Job Summary Manages clinical activities, priorities, and problems, pharmacist staffing and workloads. Provides status report to pharmacy management effectively communicating issues, concerns, and suggestions as appropriate. Manages and develops clinical initiatives and determines therapeutic alternatives when drug shortages are identified and communicates with medical staff leadership and key stakeholders. Assists with budget preparation and daily financial activity specifically in relation to high cost drugs. Assists the Director and Assistant Vice President of Pharmacy with meeting administrative goals and objectives.

Required Experience and Education

Education: Both PGY1 and PGY2 from an ASHP-accredited residency program; PGY1 with 5 years of progressive clinical practice experience; Bachelor's Degree of Science degree or PharmD from ACPE accredited school of pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy

Experience: 5 years progressive clinical practice experience within specialty with PGY1 from an ASHP-accredited residency program or 8 years progressive clinical practice experience within specialty.

Computer Skills, Data Entry Experience English (speaking, reading, writing). Good general health and stress coping ability. Moderate physical effort: prolonged standing/walking, occasional lifting/carrying (up to 25 lbs.), reaching, bending, crouching, etc.

Licenses and Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) certification accredited by the AHA or ARC, upon hire; eligible for licensure by Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) within 30 days of hire; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) for inpatient positions within 6 months.

Job Duties

Performs responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies, performance improvement objectives, and standards. Develops/implements processes to meet regulatory requirements.

Coordinates staff training, competencies, certification, and continued education specific to specialty. Assists with therapeutic monitoring, patient assessments, lab value interpretation, TPN assessment, and pharmacokinetic calculations. Identifies opportunities for process improvements, develops and implements policies for safe and efficient patient care.

Promotes pharmacy through multidisciplinary activities, publishes articles, participates in rounds, consults, and maintains high visibility. Participates in education and training of pharmacy students and residents.

Manages P&T initiatives, monitors interventions, verifies data, develops measures, reports outcomes, supports cost-saving initiatives, and reviews formulary requests.

Works independently, makes sound decisions, and demonstrates good judgment. Cross-trained and maintains competency in multiple areas.

Mentors staff, delegates tasks, evaluates performance, and represents the department at meetings.

Performs accurate and timely computer order entry, reviews medication profiles, and assesses therapeutic appropriateness, interactions, and safety. Documents interventions.

Engages in personal growth activities, participates in training, and supports new employee onboarding and evaluation.

Ownership in solving problems, providing system feedback, maintaining patient confidentiality, and demonstrating professionalism and flexibility.

Supports teamwork, adheres to safety, infection control policies, and responds promptly to requests. Performs other duties as assigned.
