Public Safety Officer - Highland Park Hospital - Evenings
Location: Highland Park Hospital
Hours: Nights – 1400-2230 | Full Time - 40 hrs
Hourly Pay Range: $18.84 - $27.32. The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.
Job Summary Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides unarmed uniformed security/safety related services. The services performed support the department’s mission to provide high quality service and to protect persons and property from harm. May also perform duties of bicycle patrol officer.
What You Will Do
Patrol assigned areas of facilities and grounds on foot or in motorized vehicle according to established schedule and investigate unusual occurrences.
Report incidents or potential loss of hospital, employee, patient or visitor property; coordinate with police if necessary and provide assistance during investigations.
Respond to service calls in a timely, safe, professional and courteous manner.
Greet customers and provide directions to patients and visitors; assist with escort to destinations when possible.
Direct vehicle traffic to prevent congestion; monitor loading docks and ambulance unloading zones; issue parking citations as needed and maintain records.
Physically restrain unruly individuals as needed and involve police when necessary; assist with court testimony.
Protect patient and employee valuables, monitor lost and found items.
Check doors, windows, alarms, fire extinguishers and equipment; report problems to appropriate personnel.
Investigate and document thefts, accidents and other incidents; prepare clear, complete reports.
What You Will Need
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of one year of experience in a customer-focused service-based organization
Knowledge in law enforcement, military or private security is preferred
Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred
Fundamental understanding of computers, loss prevention and fire/security technology
Valid Illinois Firearm Owner’s Identification Card is required within 90 days of start date
Current CPR certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) within 90 days of start date
Valid driver’s license; if using personal vehicle, maintain automobile liability coverage
CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification within six months of hire
IAHSS Basic Healthcare Security Officer certification within twelve months of start date (preferred)
