The Lowboy - Truck Driver is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that performs on construction projects any combination of the duties described below. The Lowboy - Truck Driver's primary function is to safely load, secure and transport construction equipment to be moved from one location to another. Key Duties. Hold valid Class "A" CDL license and driving record within MVR policy. Required to obtain and hold approved medical examiner's certificate (FMCSR part 391.41), for duration of employment and in accordance with Class "A" CDL License requirements. Safe and Efficient operation of Tractor/Trailer combination, including airbrakes, on public and private roadways. Drive Tractor-Trailer combination to transport construction equipment to/from assigned location(s). Must have familiarity with the safe, basic operation of construction and/or paving equipment to load onto trailer. Familiarity with applicable FMCSA and USDOT safety and operation regulations, including cargo/load securement. Ability to calculate weights of equipment with truck/trailer combo to stay within DOT permitting restrictions and guidelines. Visually assess placement and securement of equipment to ensure secured load for safe transport. Perform pre/post-shift safety checks through visual inspection of fluid levels and checks for leaks or damage before operation. Ability to visually and physically inspect mechanical, safety and operational components and complete Pre/Post Trip Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. During operation, monitor vehicle indicators for fluid levels (oil, water, fuel). Notify supervisor if vehicle needs repair. Communicate with Dispatch and/or Supervisor on a frequent basis. Interpret and follow dispatched routing/maps for pickup/delivery of equipment. Notify supervisor immediately if vehicle requires repairs. Able to work day or night shifts as required. Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts. General.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Lowboy - Truck Driver. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Must hold a valid Class A CDL license, including current medical card. A minimum of three (3) years CMV and/or other related driving experience required. Three (3) to five (5) years of industry related experience in hauling heavy equipment, preferred. Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Lowboy - Truck Driver to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Frequent sitting and driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle; using hands, arms and legs to safely maneuver and control the vehicle. Periodic standing and walking on typically hard, level surfaces to conduct visual assessments of secured equipment and perform walk-around inspections. Stepping up/down approximately 2 feet, using access steps with three points of contact. Frequent vision abilities, including close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception and focus adjustment. Frequent ability to hear and distinguish speech and other sounds (backing alarms, instructions from supervisor/spotter). Periodic lifting/pushing/pulling of up to 25 lbs; manual dexterity to handle securement chains, straps and tie-downs. Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of what a Dump Truck Driver encounters on the job. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Work environment may expose employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust on construction sites. Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery. Work may involve substances commonly found on construction sites or equipment shops, such as oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and asphalt. Demonstrates Safety 1st.
It is important for members of our team to be actively involved in their own safety, while being considerate of fellow employees. Assess work environment for possible hazards and ensure training is adequate to the task. Wear and use proper personal protective equipment and tools for the task. Speak up if seeing an unsafe act. Identify and submit near-miss reports. Ask for help when needed to perform tasks safely. Consider a safer way to perform work and communicate.
