Colorado Department of Corrections . Trinidad Correctional Facility (TCF) is a Level 2 Minimum Restrictive facility located 15 miles east of Trinidad, Colorado on State Highway 350. The facility spans 544 acres, has been operational since December 2001, and currently accommodates up to 500 inmates. TCF is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for the public, staff, contract workers, volunteers, and inmates, and supports offender reintegration through programs such as RESTORE and the Honor House Unit. TCF offers extensive programming and prosocial activities including GED and college courses, vocational training, and Career & Technical Education opportunities. Programs also include Thinking for a Change, Why Try, and life skills development, as well as family and community support through volunteer, peer, and faith programs. Description Of Job

The Correctional Officer I (CO I) maintains the safety and security of CDOC prison facilities. CO I officers communicate professionally with inmates, families, coworkers, supervisors, managers, and the public and work as a team to manage a diverse inmate population. Duties include, but are not limited to: Work directly with inmates in a locked facility Monitor and control access to the facility and restricted areas Man an armed post (annual firearms certification required) Monitor facility perimeter and detain unidentified pedestrians/vehicles Operate security devices, equipment and alarms; control movement of inmates Escort and transport inmates in state vehicles Monitor visiting areas; conduct counts; maintain movement logs Conduct searches for contraband (canine, metal detector, pat, perimeter, strip, vehicle) Inspect facility and cells for health, safety, and sanitation Inspect inmate mail and property Respond to emergencies and follow safety protocols Attend roll call; document incidents; communicate information to staff Positions may require working additional hours and/or shifts to maintain 24/7 facility security. Minimum Qualifications & Conditions Of Employment

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED. Conditions Of Employment: Acknowledge and agree to Conditions of Employment in the application Legally eligible to work in the United States; CDOC uses e-Verify; CDOC does not sponsor non-residents Must be at least 18 years old Valid and unrestricted driver’s license; maintain safe driving record Former state employees with certain terminations may be disqualified Successful completion of a background investigation Health screening required; consent to hold harmless CDOC from testing information Complete Colorado Department of Corrections Basic Training modules Physical ability to complete Defensive Tactics and handle equipment Willingness to work all shifts, doubles, weekends, and holidays; be able to report to work in inclement weather Willingness to use physical force and to work in a locked facility with fluctuating conditions Willingness to travel and/or transport inmates in a state vehicle TB screening required Required Competencies

Strong work ethic, accountability, integrity and dependability Sound judgment and decision-making Interpersonal and teamwork skills; customer service orientation English reading/writing/comprehension and clear communication Observational skills to monitor inmate activity and security Knowledge of criminal justice systems, ADA, PREA, and department regulations Computer literacy and ability to document information Ability to learn correctional methods for inmate reentry Effective communication with inmate families and the public Ability to conduct searches and operate security equipment Ability to respond to emergencies and use force when trained Resilience under stress; maintain alertness and safety Preferred Qualification
