Provide real-time interpretation services between ASL and spoken English during classroom instruction and school activities. Maintain professional interpreting standards while advocating for clear communication access. Adapt interpreting style and approach based on student developmental levels and communication preferences. Prepare for interpreting assignments by familiarizing yourself with lesson content, vocabulary, and specialized terminology. Participate in educational planning meetings when requested. Communicate with teachers and staff regarding optimal interpreting conditions and student needs. Minimum Requirements
Valid Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher. Two years of professional interpreting experience in educational environments. Fluent American Sign Language skills with strong receptive and expressive abilities. Knowledge of deaf community culture and values. Excellent visual acuity and physical stamina for interpreting demands. Professional conduct and ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Flexibility to work with various student populations and academic subjects. Transportation to travel between school locations as assigned. Preferred Credentials
EIPA score of 4.0 demonstrating advanced interpreting competency. Written EIPA completion showing comprehensive ASL knowledge. RID or NIC certification including written examination component. Experience interpreting specialized academic content and technical terminology. Background working with students having multiple disabilities or communication challenges. Training in educational systems and special education procedures. Professional development in mental health interpreting or trauma-informed practices. Professional Support
