The role focuses on preventing workplace incidents, promoting safe behavior, and ensuring regulatory compliance across all departments by delivering safety training, conducting inspections and audits, and partnering with employees and management to identify and mitigate risks. The Safety Coordinator contributes to creating a safe work environment and supporting the Commission’s safety mission. What You Will Do
Develop and facilitate hands-on safety training programs for employees and contractors (e.g., lock-out/tag-out, confined space, CPR/AED/1st Aid, trenching and excavation, cargo securement, and more). Conduct accident investigations, hazard mitigation assessments, and area inspections to identify risks and recommend improvements. Lead safety meetings, drills, and emergency response exercises, serving as a liaison to incident command units. Review and evaluate personal protective equipment (PPE), work procedures, and training effectiveness. Perform field audits and facility inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Create and present reports, correspondence, and safety notifications to management and staff. Collaborate with leadership to provide cost-effective solutions for mitigating hazards and enhancing workplace safety. Manage safety records, track recommendations, and maintain documentation in enterprise resource management systems. Qualifications
High school diploma or GED (required). Advanced education in a related field may substitute for work experience on a 1:1 basis. Minimum of six (6) years in a safety role within military, public safety, utility, construction, manufacturing, or a directly related industry (required). Experience creating, supporting, or implementing safety procedures, audits, drills, and training (preferred). Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, federal and local safety codes, PPE, and industry-standard safety practices. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to analyze data and prepare clear reports, and capability to identify hazards and recommend effective solutions. Valid Driver’s License. OSHA 30 Certification at time of hire or to be obtained within 6 months of hire (preferred). Compensation, Benefits & Work Environment
Salary Range: $37.30 - $46.63 per hour (estimated $77,584.00 - $96,990.40 annually). This role may involve exposure to moving mechanical parts, high or confined spaces, outdoor conditions, extreme heat, fumes or airborne particles, and potential electrical hazards. It requires commuting to field sites, on-call responses, trainings at other sites, and medical emergencies. Occasional evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays may be required. Physical requirements include speaking, listening, reading, writing, standing, walking, lifting up to 40 lbs, bending, climbing, and wearing PPE. A valid driver’s license is required.
