We work on the shipyard that executes the Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. The mid-life RCOH includes refueling of nuclear reactors, overhauling machinery, and modernizing warfare systems to ensure readiness. We are seeking a Master Tradesperson 2 (Mid-level mechanic) to join our growing team. RCOH trades teams provide expert solutions on shipboard alterations and installations for fleet modernization. The selected candidate will support RCOH, working closely with skilled trades teams on surface ships, removing, installing and upgrading industrial systems and equipment.
Support trades team by working on active class surface ships to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization. Perform a variety of maintenance and technical support on shipboard systems, integrated systems, and related equipment on board Aircraft Carriers. Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time. Learn and apply production processes toward completion of assignments. Perform a variety of non-routine tasks. Perform duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 2 years of related experience. Prefer technical/professional certifications. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty. Must be able to follow safety procedures to ensure a safe and secure work environment. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD confidential security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment. Must be able to obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment. Must be able to provide hand tools per trade designation. Experience with Valve Maintenance and/or Pump Repairs and Overhaul.
Preferred Requirements
Candidates who have graduated from and/or completed a vocational school, apprenticeship program or a skilled trades certificate program are preferred. OSHA 10 Maritime Certification Knowledge of Navy Tag Out program, NSTM 300, and 3M manual
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
