The City of Norfolk's Police Department is seeking candidates to work part-time as a Police Officer (Photo Safe Officer) in the Traffic Unit. The incumbent is responsible for performing limited, non-hazardous Police functions. Under general supervision, reviews and processes red light camera violations forwarded by the city's red-light enforcement contractor. Processes, examines, and analyzes electronically stored data related to red light camera enforcement; prepares and presents reports of findings and provides courtroom testimony; verifies the accuracy of alleged violations. Examines and analyzes text, graphics, multimedia, and digital images; inspects locations to ensure the red light camera program remains in compliance with state code; analyzes Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) inspection records. Prepares and presents reports of examinations and findings; works with others to prepare cases for trial; provides advice and guidance regarding the red-light camera system; gives presentations to community groups. Prepares and presents reports of examinations and findings. Works with others to prepare cases for trial. Provides advice and guidance regarding the red-light/speed camera system. Gives presentations to community groups. Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Minimum Requirements: One (1) year of consecutive active service as a certified police officer in Virginia for a municipal, county, and/or state law enforcement agency. Three (3) years of consecutive active service as a certified police officer in another state of the United States for a municipal, county, and/or state law enforcement agency. Preferred Qualifications: Work/educational experience in reading, writing and/or compiling reports. Experience working alone or along with others, supervised or unsupervised. Experience communicating and interacting with the public. Additional Requirements: Valid Driver's License. Must be a U.S. Citizen (born or naturalized). Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Law Enforcement Officer certification. Must successfully pass all entry level testing and assessments. Work Schedule: 24 hours, 7 Days a Week Availability; 20-hour work week maximum. Work Location: 901 Asbury Avenue, Norfolk, VA 23513 Intermittent/Retiree Part-time Employees: Intermittent/Retiree part-time employees will work no more than 1040 hours in a twelve (12) month period of time. The hours are flexible and based on the department's operations needs. This position is not eligible for benefits.
