Demonstration Teacher – Secondary English Language Arts/Reading (High School) reports to Campus Principals. FLSA Status: Exempt. Duty Days: 187 + 15 days. Pay Grade: Teacher Salary Schedule (Eligible for TIA). Position Purpose
This is a campus-based role in the English Language Arts/Reading content area. The Demonstration Teacher teaches no more than two STAAR-tested core content periods as the teacher of record for the length of the standard class period in the identified area. Responsibilities include delivering exemplary classroom instruction for use as a lab setting for on-the-job professional development; building ELA/Reading capacity campuswide through professional learning, real-time coaching, and in-class support with curriculum, whole and small group instruction, assessment, and student-centered, equity-driven instructional practices. The role includes collaboration with the campus instructional leadership team and administrators to co-facilitate professional learning communities, ensure alignment of best practices, and accelerate student achievement to meet or exceed campus goals. The Demonstration Teacher supports teachers in implementing high-quality instructional materials, demonstrates student learning, and engages in data-driven conversations to support student and teacher growth. Essential Job Functions
Teaches at least one but no more than two standard class periods as the teacher of record in a lab observation setting for on-the-job observations. Maintains a class roster that meets Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) requirements. Develops and implements strategic acceleration models campuswide to provide instructional support for students below grade level. Provides small group instruction beyond rostered students weekly, following evidence-based high-impact tutoring practices, tracking student progress with campus administration and Mathematics teachers to improve outcomes. Develops and implements strategic coaching rotations and sprints with campus administration to support content area teachers with targeted instructional strategies and feedback. Works with campus staff to support teachers through real-time coaching to enhance instructional skill development. Supports teachers with content-specific instructional needs through observation/feedback, modeling, co-teaching, real-time coaching, and professional learning. Debriefs and conducts professional conversations regarding instructional delivery. Demonstrates a growth mindset and builds strong relationships with teachers. Contributes to campus professional development aligned with district priorities and Strategic Plan. Co-facilitates weekly on-campus PLC time for the assigned content area with campus administrators. Collaborates with teachers on planning, internalization, and delivery of standards-aligned lessons using district-adopted materials. Participates in mandatory professional development to perform and improve required skills as offered by the Learning and Leading department. Participates in train-the-trainer programs and delivers campus and district PD to support high-quality instruction. Leverages the classroom as a model learning environment by creating instructional videos that showcase best practices and support professional learning for educators. Supports and participates in developing content-focused parent/guardian engagement activities to strengthen partnerships and student learning. Maintains accurate and timely records to document support; attends department meetings and trainings as assigned. Responds promptly to inquiries from campus staff and central administration; maintains professional relationships with peers, students, administration, and other district employees. Eligible for Bilingual and ESL stipends if teaching and roster criteria are met. Ensures instruction aligns with district-adopted instructional materials and supports campus curriculum implementation as assigned. Demonstration Teacher extra duty days align with job responsibilities and are defined in collaboration with the campus principal. Evaluations are conducted by the campus principal with validation from the Learning and Leading school leadership executive director. Safety
Performs preventative maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures it is in safe operating condition. Follows safety procedures for lifting and operation of tools and equipment; reports unsafe conditions to supervisor. Personal Work Relationships

Knowledge of current, evidence-based English Language Arts/Reading teaching methods and differentiation to support student-centered learning. Knowledge of content, data systems, data analysis, and action planning. Knowledge of English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; awareness of multicultural diversity issues. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365; ability to collaborate and lead professional learning; ability to analyze student outcome data and communicate insights to teachers. Strong communication skills, flexibility to work after school or Saturdays for PD, ability to conduct classroom observations, and ability to lead PLCs. Ability to work in a collaborative team, build partnerships, and maintain confidential records; knowledge of federal and state guidelines and district policies. Travel Requirements
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office and instructional equipment (computer, peripherals, Promethean Board). Posture: Prolonged sitting/standing; occasional bending or lifting under 15 pounds. Motion: Repetitive keyboard use and occasional reaching. Environment: Office or classroom setting; may require irregular or extended hours. Attendance: Regular and punctual presence at the worksite. Mental Demands: Ability to maintain emotional control under stress and manage interruptions. Minimum Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree from accredited institution; major in Education, a Content Area, or related field; Master’s degree preferred. Certification/License: Valid Texas Teaching Certification required; ESL or Bilingual Certification preferred. Experience: 3 years teaching experience in secondary ELA/Reading with a track record of improving student achievement; experience with diverse student populations and facilitating professional learning; instructional coaching experience preferred.
