POSITION TITLE: Golf Course Superintendent
LOCATION: Wilmington, NC- Country Club of Landfall
JOB TYPE: Full-Time
CCL AT A GLANCE The Country Club of Landfall is a mature, member-owned, private club located near Wrightsville Beach in historic Wilmington, NC. The club boasts many amenities, and the membership invests heavily in their golfing experience. High demand is placed on course conditioning whether it be for tournaments or daily play. Of the 45-holes on property, 18 were designed by Pete Dye, and 27 by Jack Nicklaus. Both courses are recognized for their championship layouts, impeccable upkeep, and tradition of excellence.
Capital Projects Renovation (2020 – 2025) CAPITAL GOLF COURSES & PRACTICE FACILITIES RENOVATION SPECIFICS:
Converted putting surfaces to TifEagle via the 4” strip, till, and fumigate method
Drained and sand-capped approaches…re-grassed collars and approaches with TifTuf Bermuda
Bunkers rebuilt to Cap-Con specs on Nicklaus
Mass bunker renovation on Dye… Pete Dye hallmark “look” was restored
Enlarged and laser-leveled par-3 tee tops…re-grassed with TifTuf Bermuda
Construction of two short game practice areas
2-wire Rain Bird irrigation system installation
Eroded pond bank stabilization
Position Description Summary The Superintendent reports to the Director of Golf Courses & Grounds Maintenance. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, detail-oriented, passionate, and comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment. The ability to communicate soundly, analyze and solve problems and multi-task efficiently are a must. This is a hands-on leadership role that requires strong agronomic knowledge, and superb team management skills.
Responsibilities
Interact closely and maintain continuity with the entire CCL Agronomy and Horticultural team, which includes but is not limited to the Director of Golf Courses & Grounds Maintenance, Equipment Manager, and Assistant Superintendents to ensure that golf course conditions consistently meet or exceed membership expectations
Assist in annual budgeting and capital project planning
Integral part in the development and implementation of agronomic plans
Intense maintenance of the putting surfaces that results in optimal appearance and performance
Assign job tasks, clearly articulate instructions, and monitor employee performance in the field
Training and continued development of staff
Scheduling of pesticide and fertilizer applications
Ensure compliance with government regulations and set standards
Foster a fun, productive, and safe work environment
Monitoring, repairing, programming, and scheduling of Rain Bird irrigation systems
Coordinate with other CCL departments and serve as a professional representative of our team
Assume the role of the Director of Golf Courses & Grounds Maintenance in his absence
Work Experience
Minimum 3 years of experience as an Assistant Superintendent
Education
In possession of a 2- or 4-year degree in Turfgrass Management/Agronomy or related field
Certification/License
NC Pesticide Applicator’s License-Must possess or obtain within 90 days of hire
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Performance Standards
Proficient in irrigation systems, equipment management, budgeting, and crew scheduling
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Member/Guest satisfaction oriented with ability to multi-task in fast paced environment
Security/Confidentiality Access to confidential information, which will be kept in the strictest confidence.
Reporting Relationships
Reports Directly To: Director of Golf Course and Grounds Maintenance
Directly Supervises: Equipment Manager, Mechanic, Golf Maintenance Staff
