Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. Instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation. Serve as a mentor to each athlete and promote the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Maintain discipline, handle grievances, and work to increase morale and cooperation; supervise and coordinate staff including head coaches, assistants, and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principals. Assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, tournament and special event requirements; ensure preparation for scheduled sport events or practices and adherence to facility times. Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent and eligibility. Direct student managers, assistants and statisticians; determine discipline and communicate with parents when issues arise. Assist athletes in college or post-secondary educational planning; oversee injury policies, medical attention and emergency procedures. Qualifications

Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program. Has previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport (major sports). The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport. The head coach must examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field. Reports To

The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals. Supervises

Staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal. Administrative Duties

Assist in scheduling and providing transportation and requirements for tournaments and special sports events. Prepare for scheduled events; coordinate with maintenance and school staff; provide documentation for state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent and eligibility. Safeguard equipment sites; advise the athletic director and recommend policy, method or procedural changes. Student Responsibilities

Mentor athletes to promote character traits and monitor grades and conduct; provide guidance and safeguards during practices and travel. Provide training rules and sport regulations; initiate programs concerning injuries and emergencies; complete paperwork on athletic injuries within 24 hours. Direct student managers, assistants and statisticians; manage discipline and communicate with parents when students become ineligible or are dropped. Finance And Equipment

Participate in budgeting and establish equipment guidelines; operate within budget; maintain inventory and records. Issue, store, recondition equipment; mark and identify equipment; monitor equipment rooms and ensure proper access and security. Ensure athletes stay in authorized areas and locker rooms are clean; instill respect for equipment and property. Public Relations

Organize preseason meetings for parents, coaches, players and guests. Promote the sport within and outside the school and manage communication with media and boosters. Seniority level
