Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Nurse Manager (FGP) – Manhattan. In this role, the successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and management for a designated time period (shift) for a patient care unit (or clinical service in operative and ambulatory settings), consistent with the philosophy and goals of the institution, the nursing departments, the unit, or program. Assists the nurse manager to develop and sustain an environment of excellence in patient/family service, growth and development of staff, and to apply evidence-based practice to improve patient care.

Responsibilities

Serves as a role model and resource for staff; develops and manages employees through promotion of professional growth and development, mentoring, appreciative coaching, counseling, and progressive discipline, as appropriate, in alignment with the principles of a caring, fair, professional work environment.

Monitors attendance; ensures appropriate staffing and skill mix to optimize patient outcomes and safety, while promoting fiscal responsibility.

Coordinates care delivery and assignment of staff based on identified patient care needs and clinical competency for optimal unit operation and patient outcomes.

Assists in scheduling, payroll, and integrating services across the care continuum.

Provides direct patient care as needed to support the clinical operations of the unit.

Provides leadership support of other unit(s) in the service.

Holds self and others accountable for the delivery of exemplary care in a cost-efficient manner.

Assists with maintaining accreditation, regulatory standards, service standards and policies at organizational, local, state and federal levels.

Communicates with clarity and integrity to build trust with all stakeholders.

Communicates significant patient care issues, family concerns, safety, risk management concerns, and critical events to leadership on duty; seeks consultation and assistance when indicated, and reports to the Nurse Manager or Director in a timely manner.

Communicates regularly with the Nurse Manager about patient safety, clinical practice, staff performance, and participates in implementing unit initiatives.

Participates in drafting nursing and organizational policy, engaging front-line staff, and incorporating shared governance principles.

Supports data collection in collaboration with the nurse manager and interprofessional team; analyzes data to drive practice changes that improve quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics.

Assists leadership in maintaining licenses, certifications, mandated trainings, and content for unit staff.

Fosters high-reliability concepts within the unit/organizational structure.

Fosters a culture of inquiry, innovation and transformation with a focus on the future; participates in nursing research, quality improvement, and evidence-based practice efforts.

Leads and supports development of new insights to complex situations, innovative designs, and programs/processes.

Exercises independent judgment in duties including discipline of employees, including suspension and discharge, evaluation of staff, approval of time off requests, and assignment of work to staff.

Clinical Responsibilities

Supports coordination, integration, communication, implementation, and performance evaluation of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures.

Ensures clinical compliance with patient safety initiatives and reporting.

Supports key quality initiatives (e.g., MIPS, care gap management) to impact clinical outcome measures.

Demonstrates knowledge of NYULH service standards and incorporates them into performance of responsibilities.

Participates in activities related to NYULH clinical standards and regulations of relevant outside agencies.

Supports the missions, philosophy, standards, goals and objectives of NYULH, Departments of Nursing, and FPG.

Participates in coordination of on-site activities to provide patient care in a healing, humane, and caring environment.

Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team and promotes collegial relationships.

Serves as a support and resource for nursing, other clinical staff, and providers.

Participates in clinical inquiry and activities to foster evidence-based practice.

Upholds ethical obligations and patient rights to confidentiality; supports fundamental values beyond those of a private citizen.

Provides emergency care in accordance with organizational policy.

Professional

Engages in self-assessment and participates in activities to promote own professional growth and development.

Seeks, acquires, and maintains current nursing knowledge and competence to fulfill responsibilities as FGP ambulatory nurse.

Applies new knowledge related to medical treatment and technology; utilizes resources to meet learning needs and promote professional development.

Fulfills obligation to identify and report professional misconduct appropriately.

Implementation / Provision of Care

Executes medical regimens as prescribed by licensed providers; assesses patients, identifies unmet needs, and plans comprehensive care.

Identifies co-morbidities or emergent complications and reports to the provider for intervention.

Integrates care with other health care providers (e.g., respiratory therapists, physical therapists, social workers, physicians, nurse practitioners, dietitians, navigators, discharge planners).

Provides direct care services including treatments, medications, education, and symptom relief.

Procedure & Care Delivery

Collects and documents patient history and assessment data; performs on-site testing (e.g., POC lab, EKG, phlebotomy).

Performs medical and nursing treatments per plan of care, provider orders, and scope of practice.

Performs procedures (e.g., dressings, wound care, minor/major procedures, perioperative tasks).

Administers medications according to nursing rights and organizational policies, including oxygen therapy; facilitates refills as needed; administers IV therapy; starts and discontinues IV lines; maintains lines and manages complications.

Communication & Message Management

Manages clinical in-baskets and closes encounters in a timely manner.

Receives, documents, and reports critical lab values; communicates results to patients as directed by providers.

Performs triage for patient concerns with escalation as needed; provides clinical advice within RN scope or as directed by provider.

Performs care/case management for defined populations via multidisciplinary plans to coordinate care as needed.

Health Promotion & Education

Identifies deviations from health and wellbeing; advocates for appropriate actions and safe environments.

Collects and analyzes patient data to determine health status and nursing diagnoses; communicates with providers as needed.

Educates patients and families to promote healthy adjustment to health changes; develops patient-centered care plans; measures progress toward outcomes.

Patient Experience

Serves as NYU Langone Health Faculty Group Practice Brand Ambassador and upholds the mission, vision, and values to promote excellence in patient experience.

Demonstrates CARES principles (Connect, Align, Respond, Ensure, Sign-Off) and ensures positive encounters; collaborates with site management to resolve inquiries.

Anticipates patient needs and participates in service recovery; escalates to leadership as appropriate.

Shares ideas for improving patient experience and access with leadership; partners with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office teams.

Minimum Qualifications

Current Registered Professional Nurse licensure in New York State.

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.

Certification in nursing leadership required upon eligibility.

Ability to apply nursing process toward outcomes addressing patient/family satisfaction and quality indicators.

Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, critical thinking, problem solving, and leadership skills.

Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association.

Physical stamina, manual dexterity, visual and aural acuity to perform responsibilities; able to handle and move reasonably heavy weight.

Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, Basic Life Support Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in nursing or health-related field.

Two or more years of clinical practice in the patient population served.

ACLS certification; membership in pertinent professional organizations.

Strong communication skills to effectively engage with all levels of the organization.

Salary range: $117,360.00 - $180,065.65 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need.
