The Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine is seeking a postdoctoral scholar to study climate impacts and solutions. This position is within the Climate, Pollution, and Solutions group led by Prof. Lyssa Freese. This position has a flexible start date. Position Perks
This is a two-year position that is renewable, pending good progress and funding. The salary will range from 66,737 to 80,034 USD per year, scaling with experience as detailed here, and includes generous benefits. Project/Position Description
There are three potential research tracks for the Postdoctoral Scholar: Climate-economic modeling of uncertainty in climate damage Climate-energy system modeling of the role of climate uncertainty in the energy system Air pollution-energy system modeling of the impact of policy on air quality The postdoctoral scholar will be expected to focus on at least one of the above tracks, and if interested, they will have the opportunity to address two of the above tracks, so long as their background and experience is suitable. Responsibilities will depend upon the chosen project direction, potentially including integration of climate emulation into economic models, pairing climate model data with energy system models, or combining energy system models with chemical transport models. Postdoctoral scholars are expected to lead peer reviewed scientific publications, and present at relevant conferences. Qualifications
Basic qualifications
(required at time of application) An expected or recent Ph.D. in climate science, atmospheric sciences, atmospheric chemistry, applied math, engineering or relevant interdisciplinary fields related to energy systems, or climate economics. Proficient in programming Experience in computational modeling and working with high performance computing Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills Application Requirements
