Overview
The CMM Operator/Programmer is responsible for the management and operation of CMM measuring instruments and programs. This includes ensuring procedures are followed, resolving quality related issues, periodic inspection and calibration of measuring instruments to ensure measurement reliability, generation of reports, tracking of data, and recommendation of process improvements. Essential Functions
Program, operate, and maintain Zeiss coordinate measuring machines (CMM) systems to ensure products meet the highest standards of quality and precision. Extensive experience with Zeiss Calypso CMM; strong problem-solving skills and deep understanding of CMMs and quality control procedures. Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements to ensure accurate measurement and reporting. Perform precise dimensional inspections and analyze measurement data to ensure compliance with engineering specifications. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to CMM programs, fixturing, and measuring instruments to maintain smooth operational performance. Collaborate with engineering and production teams during product validation and to solve quality problems in the manufacturing process. Experience with MSA and Gauge R&R activities preferred. Devise strategies for system enhancements which assure long-range integrity and cost-effectiveness of the measurement system. Qualifications and Skills
Education level: Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in a technical field. May consider combination of education/experience in lieu of degree. Relevant previous experience: More than 3 years of experience with Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) programming and operating in a 3D Measuring Environment (Zeiss Calypso experience preferred). Experience in precision machining (aerospace/defense) industry environment. Language skills: Able to communicate in basic English. Knowledge Areas/Skills Possess diverse knowledge and experience in CMM operation capabilities and manual measuring instruments. In-depth understanding of technical documentation (drawings, specifications, etc.). Basic knowledge of product defect analysis and process management. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). Other skills and knowledge: Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to present data effectively. Machinist: This role requires precision handling of tools and machinery, often in a manufacturing setting with prolonged physical engagement. Hand and Finger Use/Dexterity: Frequent use of hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls (approximately 89%), with arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity for precise manipulation. Standing/Walking: Upright position for most of the workday (approximately 62%), with occasional movement to position materials or equipment. Moving Objects/Lifting/Carrying: Frequently moves, transports, positions, or installs materials and tools; requires general physical activity. Bending/Twisting/Reaching: Limited bending or twisting (about 31%), with moderate flexibility needs. Repetitive Motions: Repetitive actions required (approximately 46%).
