Position Overview Director of Regulatory & Legislative Affairs. This leadership position shapes the company's regulatory and legislative strategy by cultivating strong relationships with utility commissions, lawmakers, and industry organizations. The Director oversees advocacy initiatives, prepares testimony, regulatory comments, and internal memoranda, and ensures adherence to consumer protection laws. They monitor and interpret regulatory developments, resolve complex compliance challenges, and work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to support business goals.

Key Responsibilities

Represent company in proceedings before public utility commissions across its operational regions.

Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, legislators, staff, and industry peers.

Ensure compliance with state regulations; draft mass-market sales contracts and conduct legal research on relevant rules.

Evaluate and advocate for legislation impacting company's business interests.

Collaborate with business units to implement regulatory compliance strategies.

Research legal and regulatory frameworks related to electric, natural gas, solar, and other renewable energy sectors.

Analyze and summarize regulatory filings for internal and external use.

Lead and influence trade associations and industry groups to promote company's priorities.

Draft persuasive comments and testimony for utility commissions and legislative bodies.

Provide strategic solutions to complex regulatory and compliance issues.

Partner with internal teams, consultants, lobbyists, and legal counsel to advance company's regulatory and legislative agenda.

General understanding of energy-related industries and business operations.

Ability to learn company's internal business functions and advocate for their needs with policymakers.

Draft clear, concise documents that accurately reflect company's positions.

Interpret laws and regulations and provide actionable recommendations to business units.

Adapt quickly to evolving business and regulatory environments.

Work independently and contribute to regional strategy development and execution.

Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and research proficiency.

Education & Experience

Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Minimum of 6 years of legal experience; must be licensed to practice law in Ohio.

Preferred experience in energy law and working with utility commissions and legislative bodies.

Strong legal expertise in energy, regulatory compliance, and related fields.
