Job Description:**Main responsibilities:*** **Critically Assess Vendor Forecasts:** Review daily weather commentary from external vendors with a sharp, analytical lens. Identify areas of overconfidence, overlooked pattern drivers, and inconsistencies. Engage directly with vendors to challenge assumptions and clarify methodologies relevant to power and gas market impacts.* **Deliver Actionable Forecasts:** Consolidate and present ensemble forecasts from multiple models and vendors. Highlight forecast divergences, key regional risks, and timing considerations—translating meteorological uncertainty into trading-relevant insights across power and natural gas markets.* **Provide Timely Updates on Model Changes:** After each model cycle deliver succinct, high-impact commentary on what's changed, what matters, and how it could affect energy demand or supply expectations.* **Track and Explain Large-Scale Weather Drivers:** Communicate evolving pattern drivers and their downstream implications for temperature, load, and demand volatility—beyond the standard forecast window.* **Develop and Improve Weather Intelligence Tools:** Build enhanced internal reporting dashboards that surface key weather signals, anomalies, and trends. Ensure data is communicated clearly to traders and risk managers under tight time constraints.* **Evaluate New Forecasting Tools and Vendors:** Test and benchmark pioneering weather models, AI-based tools, and ‘early look’ model outputs. Recommend integration of tools that offer genuine edge in anticipating market-moving weather events.* **Conduct Probabilistic and Market-Driven Research:** Use statistical methods to quantify forecast confidence and risk.* **Build Advanced Demand Models:** Develop sophisticated power load or regional gas demand models tied to meteorological inputs. Tailor models for key ISOs (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, MISO) or gas regions to support real-time and forward trading strategies.**Qualifications:*** Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Environmental Science, or a related quantitative field (e.g., Physics, Applied Math, Engineering).* 5+ years of experience in operational forecasting, energy trading, commodities, or weather analytics (power/gas markets strongly preferred).* Experience working with ensemble forecast models, reanalysis datasets, or probabilistic forecasting techniques.* Proficiency in Python, R, or another data analysis language for working with weather datasets and building internal tools.* Solid understanding of U.S. power and/or natural gas markets and how weather impacts price, demand, and volatility.* Knowledge of key ISOs (e.g., PJM, ERCOT, MISO, CAISO) and regional weather sensitivities in all seasons.* Curious, detail-oriented, and passionate about the intersection of weather and markets.* Ability to manage multiple inputs, prioritize under pressure, and quickly adapt to changing model outputs and forecasts.* Proactive in researching new tools, models, or techniques* Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly and concisely translate complex weather signals into market-relevant insights.Note: EDF is an EEO employerWe are an equal opportunity employer and all qualified candidates will receive consideration for all positions without regard to race, color, age, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, disability, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by law.EDF participates in the E-Verify Employment Verification Program.EDF is not currently accepting unsolicited resumes from search firms.
