About The Employer Rex and Margaret Fortune School of Education is a comprehensive education system including, non-profit preschools, a network of tuition-free, public charter schools (TK-12th), and a school of education with master programs and educator preparation programs accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. In Sacramento/San Bernardino County. We prepare students for college starting in preschool Transitional Kindergarten in San Bernardino and Sacramento Counties and are focused on closing the African American achievement gap.

Job Summary Direct the Fortune Concert Choir for scholars TK-12. Note: Audition only gospel choir focused on performing at school and community events. Rehearsals will be weekly, on Fridays from 4:15PM to 5:45PM.

Musical Leadership:

Conducts rehearsals, selecting appropriate repertoire, and teaching vocal techniques.

Performance Management:

Plans and coordinates performances, ensuring high-quality execution and presentation.

Student Development:

Mentors individual singers, providing guidance on vocal technique and musicality.

Program Administration:

Manages the choir's budget, schedules, and logistical needs, including communication with parents and school administration.

Collaboration:

Works with other music teachers, fine arts staff, and school administration to integrate the choir program into the broader school community.

Recruitment and Retention:

Actively works to recruit and retain students in the choir program.

Professional Development:

Participates in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in choral music education.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Strong musical knowledge: Includes music theory, vocal techniques, and ensemble dynamics.

Effective communication: Ability to clearly convey instructions and provide constructive feedback.

Organizational skills: Managing rehearsals, performances, and administrative tasks.

Leadership and motivational skills: Inspiring and guiding students to achieve their musical potential.

Patience and understanding: Working with students of varying ages and skill levels.

Enthusiasm for music: Passion for choral music and a desire to share that passion with students.

Ability to work with technology: Utilizing music software and other technology for instruction and administration

Physical Abilities

Hearing and speaking to conduct group training; exchange information in person, electronically, and on the telephone.

Ability to read printed material and computer screens.

Ability to hear and comprehend speech at normal volumes.

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.

Kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies.

Ability to climb stairs, walk, and sit for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry 10 pounds.

Experience/Background

Experience [teaching] with Show Style Concert choir

Ability to lead a children's Gospel choir with movement

Able to accompany students on piano

Understanding of Music Theory, Vocal Arranging, Choir Conducting, and Songwriting

Provide vocal instruction to students TK-12

Provide developmentally appropriate instruction in music & choral to students K-12

Experience directing middle or high school choirs or vocal ensembles

Knowledge of vocal pedagogy, choral repertoire, and ensemble management

Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills

Ability to motivate and inspire students of diverse backgrounds

Proficiency in music technology and digital tools for instruction

Other expectations

Provide exposure to a variety of music genres

Plan and coordinate student performances throughout the school year

Ensure high-quality presentation and musical excellence

Select a developmentally appropriate, culturally relevant repertoire

Duties as they arise for the musical development of scholars and the music program

Compensation $2,500.00 – Total stipend
