Job Description

General Functions

Responsible secretarial and administrative work in support of a County Commissioner.

An incumbent in this position performs a variety of duties requiring working knowledge of the Commissioner's district and constituent concerns. Duties include researching rules, regulations and policies for the Commissioner and the public. Extensive writing and managing social media platforms. Work is performed with considerable independence and little direct supervision.

Representative Duties/Assignments

Serves as a confidential Administrative Aide to the County Commissioner. Provides information to media outlets by generating social media posts and newsletters. Assists with capturing photographs for agency publications and special events as needed. Provides oversight and appropriate responses for internal and external communication efforts. Assists with generating newsletters and engages in research, writing, and other organization activities. Receives and responds to public inquiries or refers the caller to the appropriate county department or staff member. Assists with agency social media presence and assists with capturing photographs for agency publications and special events as needed. Plans, coordinates and completes a variety of complex administrative duties including research and report writing. Establishes and maintains files and records of inquiries, questions and comments from the public. Receives and reviews incoming mail; composes and signs routine correspondence for the Commissioner. Establishes and maintains filing systems, research materials and other information on county operations for the Commissioner's use in public speaking, press releases and other official business. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with County staff who serve as research or information sources. Assists the Mayor or Commissioner's staff members with projects when needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years secretarial experience. College-level courses or professional experience in public administration as a legislative or administrative assistant is preferred.

Preferences

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or Public Relations.

Experience in managing social media platforms.

Experience in editorial or newsletter writing.

Knowledge of event photography and videography.

Experience in social media relations, communications, or public relations.

Salary Information

Pay Grade: 204 - From $58,240.00 to $66,560.00 Annually

FLSA Status: Exempt
