Job Description Performs technical and clerical review of building plans and issues permits consistent with departmental regulations. This technical position requires sound judgment and excellent customer service skills, and is performed with considerable independence under the supervision of the Senior Permit Analyst or Assistant Manager, Plans Review.
Representative Duties & Assignments
Assists with the issuance of permits, inspections, and plan submittal processes.
Communicates and assists customers in person and by telephone regarding policies and procedures for obtaining and completing building permits and/or fire system permits.
Reviews applications for completeness and compliance with departmental requirements.
Resolves customers’ problems and refers complex issues to supervisor as needed.
Sorts and inputs inspection schedules and results.
Accepts plans and checks for required seals, signatures, soil reports, documented calculations, cost estimates, and/or fire protection system permits.
Stamps and routes plans.
Implements zoning regulations in the review of all types of development permits, including commercial, residential, and signage.
Provides excellent customer service both personally and by telephone.
Resolves complex zoning problems requiring detailed analysis of site and architectural documents.
Minimum Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years of technical or clerical experience including customer service; or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience.
Must have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with the general public while discussing, explaining, and interpreting departmental policies.
Preferences Demonstrated computer literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
