Purpose

To provide academic advising to students in the Natural Sciences Advising Center. To facilitate multiple sections of small learning communities and/or support programmatic initiatives. Provide accurate and timely information on course and degree options to various populations. To advance our core mission of fostering wellness, belonging, and success for all students.

Responsibilities

Assist with and/or lead Natural Sciences Advising Center or CNS projects and special student initiatives, attend meetings and events, serve on committees as assigned. Complete trainings over various topics (ex. Professional Development). Serve as a point person for major(s) advised for our office - may include communication with other advising centers.

Facilitate multiple sections of CNS Foundations seminars for small first-year community cohorts.

Present academic oriented material through workshops and new student orientation.

Provide academic advising for students individually and in groups.

Other duties as assigned, including supporting special projects and staffing events within CNS.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people

Strong organizational and time management skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced student-centered environment

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

One or more years of experience providing academic advising or student support services in a college/university setting

Experience facilitating workshops, seminars, or small group learning communities

Familiarity with the College of Natural Sciences curriculum, policies, and student support initiatives

Knowledge of university-wide resources and referral processes for student wellness and success

Proficiency in academic advising systems and tools

Salary Range $40,000

Working Conditions

Environmental Demands: may work around standard office conditions

Physical Tasks: Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

Must be able to work in-person on The University of Texas at Austin campus.

Employment Eligibility:

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
