Meet First Colony Church of Christ
First Colony Church is a dynamic faith family of about 2000 members
with a deep desire to honor God in all we do and lead people into a
growing relationship with Him. First Colony Church of Christ, located
in Sugar Land, Texas, is a vibrant, welcoming community committed to
growing together in faith. The church offers a variety of services,
including Sunday worship at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., as well as Bible
classes and a strong focus on outreach programs. With a mission to
serve the local and global community, the church’s values emphasize
love, service, and inclusivity. They provide numerous opportunities
for individuals and families to connect through ministries such as
children’s programs, student groups, and care services. The church
also offers both in-person and online services to accommodate a
diverse range of attendees.
In addition to its Sunday worship and regular services, First Colony
Church of Christ is committed to providing educational resources and
support for its members. The church’s ministries include specialized
groups like women’s and men’s ministries and programs for those
dealing with chronic pain or recovery. They also prioritize outreach,

About the Lead Student Minister
First Colony Student Ministry serves 100+ students across the Houston
metroplex. We want to provide environments that encourage students to
be disciples of Jesus, to learn, and to be excited about being a part
of the larger faith family at First Colony. We want to teach them the
Word of God and help them grow into a lasting relationship with Jesus
as Lord & Savior.
The job of the Lead Student Minister is to provide the opportunity for
these things to happen for every 6th- 12th-grade student at First
Colony. Through regular time together on Sundays and Wednesdays each
week, service opportunities, spiritual events, retreats, summer camps,
mission trips, discipleship groups, family ministry, engaging worship
experiences and other activities, it’s the job of the Student Minister
to provide the leadership for our student ministry to be successful in
leading the way for students to have an encounter with Jesus!
The Lead Student Minister’s responsibilities include:
Serve under the leadership of the Senior Minister and the elders.
Lead the Student Ministry Team to develop, implement and evaluate a
comprehensive student ministry program including Small Groups,
Curriculum, Budget, Calendar of events & age appropriate missions that
works within the overall vision of the church.
Intentionally develop strong, appropriate relationships with students.
Equip and train students to become leaders who serve in the Church
and student ministry.
Coordinate with a team of parents and other lay leaders to help plan
& facilitate opportunities for students.
Provide regular training for Student Ministry volunteers
Plan, organize and implement programming for a healthy growing
student ministry where students come to both learn about Christ & come
to know him personally during the school year & summer months.
Be involved with students in our local community outreach. Build
relationships with schools & other organizations where we can
influence students for Christ.
Partner with other ministries at First Colony Church when it’s
beneficial for the larger faith family.
Continually innovate and identify/implement ministry best practices.
Utilize technology and media in the discipleship process.
Mentor, lead & develop summer interns as a ministry of First Colony
Church for the kingdom of God & His church.
Excel in communication with students, families & the church through
social media, weekly ENews, & other standard modes of church
communication.
Equip and train parents to be the spiritual leaders of their students.
Be equipped and available to provide pastoral care and pastoral
counseling as needed.
Work with the other organizations that utilize our building to
maintain a positive relationship and effectively use our shared space,
including Cornerstone Christian Academy.
Supervisory
Maintain and uphold appropriate standards of conduct and operation
for both paid employees and volunteer staff.
Oversee a comprehensive volunteer screening database and ensure a
strong safety standard for Student Ministry.
Maintain consistency in curriculum across grade-levels as appropriate.

Regular Events and Activities:The Student Ministry offers

where all students feel like they belong, are welcome, and included.
Intentional Worship:Worship experiences are provided that are
relevant and engaging for students, helping them connect with God in
meaningful ways.

ministry with measurable goals that align with the overall mission of
the church.
Financial Stewardship:The Student Ministry is operating within it’s
planned budget each year.

Education and experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Bible or related field is required
Must maintain a vital and growing relationship with the Lord through
Bible study, prayer and other spiritual practices.
Must possess the characteristics of a leader and the ability to lead
staff and volunteers in their ministries.
Must possess the ability to communicate with multiple people through
various forms of communication including email, text, social media.
etc.
Must have good organizational skills and the ability to create
duplicable systems.
Must be able to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
Must have the ability to handle conflict and listen to members’ concerns.
Must have a heart and passion for Student Ministry and building
strong student programs.
