Overview
Manhattan University, an NCAA Division I institution and proud member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), is seeking a full-time Assistant Coach to support the operations and success of its Cross Country / Track & Field program. This position is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of managing a competitive Division I program, including athlete development, recruitment, academic support, compliance, and administrative duties. The Assistant Coach is expected to foster a team culture aligned with the mission and values of Manhattan University and its Athletics Department.
This is an in-person, non-remote, on-campus position, posting is for 2 open positions.
Responsibilities
Assist the Head Coach in planning and executing practices, training sessions, and competition strategies. Provide position- or event-specific coaching and mentorship to student-athletes. Identify and recruit academically and athletically qualified prospective student-athletes in compliance with NCAA and institutional policies. Promote the academic, athletic, and personal development of all team members. Help cultivate a culture of integrity, accountability, sportsmanship, and respect. Support administrative operations including travel planning, equipment management, and compliance documentation. Collaborate with university departments such as athletic training, strength & conditioning, academic services, and compliance. Represent the program at internal and external events, including community outreach and alumni engagement. Assist in fundraising, marketing, and promotional efforts for the program. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (Master’s degree preferred). 2+ years of collegiate coaching experience or relevant high-level playing experience. Demonstrated ability to recruit and develop student-athletes in a highly competitive environment. Thorough understanding of NCAA Division I rules and regulations. Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to contribute to a positive and collaborative coaching staff culture. Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and to travel as necessary. Valid driver’s license and ability to operate institutional vehicles. Ability to lift and move equipment and perform tasks in a variety of environmental conditions.
