Job Title: POLICE OFFICER Shift Schedule: Operates on the Platoon System, 12-hour shifts with rotating days off, alternating between days and nights every 28 days. Standard shift hours are 0600–1800 and 1800–0600. Must be able to adjust shifts with little to no advanced notice for events or incidents requiring additional sworn personnel. Starting Rate: $33.1683 per hour / $68,990 annual Closing Date: This job announcement will be open until filled. Assist airlines and Airport tenants in security and police matters and channel requests to proper authorities. Be familiar with Norfolk International Airport rules and applicable laws. Assist other law enforcement agencies on Airport premises/jurisdiction. Perform first aid as required and assist medical personnel on Airport premises. Assist Airport patrons in cases of emergency and distress. Investigate disturbances, thefts, and make arrests when necessary. Issue traffic citations for parking violations and Virginia motor vehicle laws. Investigate accidents, confine offenders, and refer to proper authorities. Check all parking lots regularly. Ensure security of all Norfolk Airport Authority facilities. Respond to emergency calls and unusual occurrences on Airport premises. Report unauthorized solicitation to Authority administration. Coordinate with internal departments with courtesy and cooperation. Perform other duties as assigned and adhere to Authority policies. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability and willingness to work independently, nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to complete 40-hour DCJS in-service training every two years. Ability to meet Virginia handgun permit criteria and obtain/maintain SIDA badge if required. Strong initiative, judgment, tact, and cooperation with public and airport tenants. Adherence to Authority policies and ability to perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge of Airport facilities and safety precautions. Education & Experience

High school graduate or equivalent. Six months of sworn basic law enforcement experience from a certified Virginia police agency, or equivalent, including completion of field training. Investigative experience preferred (misdemeanor, felony, and traffic cases). Certifications & Special Requirements

Commonwealth of Virginia DCJS Basic Law Enforcement certification. Maintain/achieve VCIN certification as required. Instructor certifications and FEMA ICS courses preferred. Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain/maintain SIDA badge as required. Working Conditions

Operate equipment including firearms, vehicles, radios, and other police equipment; withstand extreme weather; long hours; varied work schedule; potential physical confrontations.
