Overview
As a Charleston County Deputy Sheriff, you will join a premier law enforcement agency with an outstanding team of law enforcement professionals striving to serve our community by helping to provide a safe environment for citizens to live, work and raise families, and enhance their quality of life by providing excellent law enforcement services. HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $26.19 - $30.58 HIRING SALARY RANGE: $54,475 - $63,606 (Estimated Annual Salary) OPEN UNTIL FILLED – APPLICATION REVIEW BEGINS IMMEDIATELY Duties and Opportunities
The duties of this position encompass all general law enforcement functions including patrolling of all areas of Charleston County (as assigned), responding to all calls for assistance, traffic enforcement, investigation of criminal activity inclusive of making arrests, preparation of applicable documents, issuance of citations, service of warrants, and all other duties pertaining to the enforcement of laws and ordinances as prescribed by SC law. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will have the opportunity to work in a variety of specialized units such as: Criminal Investigation Narcotics/Vice K-9 Marine Patrol Traffic Animal Control Forensic Services Warrants General Sessions and Family Courts Transport Civil Process Liberal employee benefit program includes retirement, health, dental, vision, life insurance, long term disability, annual leave, sick leave, 10 observed county holidays and 401/457 incentive saving plans. A citizen of the United States who is at least 21 years of age. Have one of the following: High School diploma or GED from an accredited school. A valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain a South Carolina license upon acceptance of the position. No criminal convictions. Due to SC Code of Laws, Law Enforcement and Public Safety Section 23-23-120, applicants who are currently SC LE Class 1 must be certified for a minimum of two years. Applicants meeting these minimum criteria must submit to, and successfully complete, all phases of the hiring process to be considered for employment. The process includes but is not limited to the following: the Nelson-Denny Reading Test, a physical abilities test, a two-phase background investigation, a credit check, a psychological examination/evaluation, a polygraph examination, an oral interview and upon an offer of employment, a pre-employment physical examination.
