Madison Area Technical College is hiring a full‑time
Financial Aid Advisor
to support the Financial Aid Office’s Second Chance Pell Program. The role answers questions about eligibility, FAFSA completion, verification, student loan default resolution, and provides services related to student accounts, admissions status, and appointment scheduling with institutional partners. The position gathers data and submits monthly and yearly reports.
Pay Range Base pay: $22.51/hr – $26.30/hr. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience – talk with your recruiter to learn more.
Schedule and Travel This is a full‑time, hourly position at the Madison College Truax campus with general office hours of 8:00 am to 4:30 pm M‑F. Currently the role works three days in office and two days remote (subject to change). The position requires some travel and overnights. Mileage reimbursement is available.

Accountabilities
Assist Second Chance Pell students with financial aid applications, reviewing and resolving financial data to ensure eligibility and access to funding.
Facilitate financial aid coordination for the Second Chance Pell program by maintaining accurate documentation, sharing timely updates with institutional partners, and providing reports to financial aid leadership.
Ensure compliance and timely distribution of financial aid by collecting, reviewing, and processing financial aid applications and verification documents from Second Chance Pell sites.
Provide comprehensive financial aid advising on campus, guiding students through eligibility requirements, managing financial aid lifecycles, and proactively addressing financial barriers to support student success.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to quickly learn federal, state and institutional financial aid regulations related to the Second Chance Pell program.
Knowledge of student support services, financial resources and best practices in higher education advising.
Skill in data interpretation and analysis.
Ability to manage multiple processes, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast‑paced environment.
Ability to provide effective customer service and resolve concerns.
Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.
Associate degree or equivalent work experience.
0–2+ years of relevant work experience.
Ability to travel and work in prisons across the state of Wisconsin about 50% of the time. The ability for overnight travel 2–5 nights per month. (Mileage reimbursement provided).
Must not be defaulted on federal student loans and must submit and pass an annual background check performed by the Department of Corrections.
Work Authorization Madison College does not offer H‑1B or other visa sponsorship for this position. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and maintain work authorization throughout the employment term.
