Overview
Job Title: Bus Monitor
Reports to: Transportation Director and Bus Driver
Responsibilities
Ensures safety of students while boarding, exiting, and riding the bus
Maintains orderly conduct of student passengers
Reports any and all safety concerns
Participates in in-service training programs as directed
May be responsible for assistance in safely loading and unloading passengers in wheelchairs using a lift
Understands the operation and securing of all equipment to include wheelchairs, mobility chairs, star seats, walkers, crutches, etc. when necessary
Keeps track of personal belongings, coats, and student bags for students who are not able to care for their personal effects if necessary
Works under the bus driver\'s direction to provide care and assistance to passengers when entering and leaving the bus and during transportation
Monitors and assists the driver in maintaining proper student control on the bus at all times
Be sufficiently familiar with the route to assist a substitute driver in following the route
Be familiar with emergency and evacuation procedures for the bus and perform those duties if required
Knows student names, parents, and bus stops, etc.
Uses knowledge of first aid and clean up kit when necessary
Follows procedures that maintain safety standards in compliance with state and federal laws, and insurance regulations
Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and material; adheres to chain of command
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties; uses appropriate safety precautions in all areas of job performance; follows safety rules and regulations
Participates in job-related staff development and safety training
Is knowledgeable of school and bus safety plans and their role in safety procedures
Complies with school, system, state and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics
Qualifications Education, Certification, and Experience: Minimum - High School Diploma/GED; Routinely pass a drug/alcohol screening
Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated consistent with Calhoun County School System evaluation policy.
