HDR is currently seeking a Site Civil Engineer-In-Training (EIT) for our Building Engineering Services Business Group located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our team is an integrated facility and infrastructure design team with core services in Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, and Site Civil Engineering. This role will initially focus on facilities-related site design in support of the Data Center market, with future opportunities across Corporate/Commercial, Healthcare, Education, Municipal, Civic, Industrial, and Sports & Recreation buildings and infrastructure. The candidate will coordinate and work closely with a multidisciplinary design team throughout the project life cycle—from planning through construction documents and construction administration. This individual should be self-motivated, collaborative, with strong communication skills and initiative to deliver high-quality, technically sound designs. Candidates hired without their EIT will hold the title of "Coordinator" and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression. Responsibilities
Design and produce plan sets, details, specifications, and cost estimates Perform calculations in support of site development (stormwater pond sizing, culvert and pipe capacity analysis, hydrology calculations, etc.) Author reports that are technically sound, grammatically correct, and well organized Contribute to the development of civil engineering scope of work and budgets for proposals Coordinate with internal and external resources to complete due diligence research and documentation Understand and meet Jurisdictional requirements in design and support the Pre-Application process; coordinate with the Authority Having Jurisdiction to determine design and submittal requirements and coordinate design solutions Transition concept plans through schematic and construction design processes Coordinate with subconsultants for support and design services Attend and contribute to client meetings Collaborate with team engineers to determine the best course of action Be independent in information gathering and problem solving Manage time and organization of multiple tasks/projects Communicate effectively with managers and team members Pursue efficiencies within work and operations Mentor junior staff and delegate appropriate tasks Advocate for HDR, the BES Business Group, and the Site Civil team Perform other tasks that support the mission and vision of HDR and the BES Business Group Preferred Qualifications
Proficient with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD; familiarity with civil engineering software such as Bentley ConceptStation and/or Autodesk Infraworks and Civil 3D; experience with specialty civil platforms (e.g., OpenFlows) as required Coursework experience in land development and design of building-related site civil (grading, utilities, storm drainage, stormwater management, and erosion control) is required Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate Strong written and verbal communication skills An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture What We Believe
