The Community You’ll Be Caring For AdventHealth Tampa, a faith‑based not‑for‑profit 626‑bed tertiary‑level acute care hospital located in the uptown district of Tampa, Florida, specializes in advanced cardiovascular medicine, neuroscience and neurology, digestive health, orthopedics, women's services, pediatrics, oncology, endocrinology, bariatrics, wound healing, sleep medicine and general surgery including minimally invasive and robot‑assisted procedures. GME programs on the hospital campus currently include general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine and transitional year.

Patel Research Institute, also located at AdventHealth Tampa, leads the way in clinical and academic research in the areas of neuroscience, cardiovascular medicine, advanced surgery and more contributing valuable knowledge that leads to tomorrow’s cures for conditions such as heart failure, cancer and other diseases.

The Role You’ll Contribute Responsible for preparing and maintaining the surgical area. This position scrubs and acts as the first assistant to the physician during procedures. Additionally, this role assists the RN in technical functions related to patient care in the OR. In addition, this position helps in the training of others. Additionally, this role functions as a resource within the department, ensuring adherence to all relevant protocols and standards.

Key Responsibilities

Positions patients for optimal surgical exposure while ensuring comfort and safety.

Pads pressure points and guards against nerve damage to prevent injury.

Prepares and maintains the surgical area, including scrubbing for procedures, setting up the operating room, and cleaning instruments and equipment post‑procedure.

Selects and applies appropriate wound dressings and secures drainage systems to tissue.

Assists with closure of body planes using various suturing techniques and materials as directed by the surgeon.

Participates in volume replacement or auto‑transfusion techniques as needed.

Assists with hemostasis by clamping, cauterizing, tying, ligating vessels, and applying hemostatic agents.

Provides visualization of the operative site through proper placement and securing of retractors, packing with sponges, and digital manipulation of tissue.

Qualifications

High School Graduate or equivalent (required)

Technical/Vocational School graduate (required)

2 years of work experience

Basic Life Support – CPR Certificate (BLS) required

Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) – Certificate required

Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) required OR Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) required OR ABSA Surgical Assistant (SA) required
