Position Summary : The General Accountant performs a range of accounting duties to support the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial records within the General Accounting department. The role progresses from entry‑level to advanced technical and leadership support, including preparing journal entries, monthly & quarterly accruals, reconciling accounts, assisting with monthly & quarterly close, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Perform timely and accurate monthly accounting functions, including data entry, journal entries, invoice coding, and account reconciliations.

Assist with accounts payable and receivable processing as needed.

Assist with month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close activities.

Review balance sheet reconciliation, identify and analyze errors, and provide feedback for corrections, posting adjustments as needed.

Reconcile bank statements and record cash transactions in the general ledger monthly.

Participate in updating policies and process improvements related to accounting activities.

Assist the Assistant Controller with recording financial accounting records within GAAP and company policies.

Support the accounting team with audits, variance analysis, and special projects.

Perform ad hoc reports as assigned, research variance analysis and special projects.

Assist with the annual audit, tax returns, and other compliance tasks.

Communicate regularly with the Assistant Controller.

Collaborate with other departments to resolve discrepancies and ensure accuracy.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor’s degree

in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

0–5 years of relevant experience (internship experience acceptable).

Preferred

Experience in upstream oil and gas accounting.

Skills & Competencies

Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy.

Strong time‑management skills, able to organize multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.

Proactive to learn and open to new processes or duties and able to work independently.

Ability to function in a team‑oriented environment.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (experience with ERP system preferred).

Physical Demands

Sitting frequently for desk work, computer use, and meetings.

Standing/walking occasionally for office walkthroughs.

Lifting (up to 20 lbs.) occasionally for files and training materials.

Fine motor skills required for constant typing, writing, and computer mouse use.

Work Environment

Full‑time, exempt position based at corporate headquarters.

Standard office environment with minimal physical demands.

May require extended hours during closing cycles, audits, or special projects.

Occasional travel to field offices or operational sites may be required.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required at all times in designated areas.
