Purpose of Position
The Operations Agronomist is a hands-on role responsible for supporting agronomy sales, crop input recommendations, and the daily execution of agronomic services. This position works closely with growers, applicators, and the operations team to ensure timely, accurate, and safe delivery of agronomy products and services. Ideal for someone who enjoys both fieldwork and operational leadership, this role is key to ensuring service excellence during busy planting, spraying, and harvest seasons.
Responsibilities Agronomic Support
Assist with crop scouting, field evaluations, and agronomic data collection Provide input on product recommendations in coordination with agronomy sales staff Help growers interpret agronomic reports, precision ag data, and product performance Stay up to date on agronomy trends, seed traits, and crop protection strategies Use integrated pest management techniques to determine treatment thresholds
Operational Execution
Assist with blending, loading, and delivery of crop inputs (seed, fertilizer, chemicals) Operate or support custom application equipment (if licensed or trained) Coordinate with the operations team to ensure products and equipment are field-ready Maintain facility and equipment cleanliness, safety, and inventory integrity Monitor and maintain quality of inventory Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations Custom Application if qualified and/or if the need arises
Customer Service
Serve as a trusted partner to growers during busy seasons Deliver products to customer locations when needed Assist with field calls, customer questions, or in-season issue resolution Ensure excellent follow-through on orders and service requests Duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Ag Business, or related field
Some experience in agronomy, ag operations, or related fieldwork
Strong communication skills and willingness to work with customers directly
Ability to work extended hours during peak seasons
CDL or ability to obtain one (if required for role)
Preferred:
Commercial Applicator License or willingness to obtain
Familiarity with agronomy software and precision ag tools
Mechanical aptitude and comfort operating agricultural equipment
Experience with seed, chemical, and fertilizer handling or blending
Work Environment Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.
Exposed to moving mechanical parts
Exposed to moderate to loud noise levels
Occasionally exposed to oils, fumes or airborne particles
Occasionally work in high, dangerous places
