Network Engineer II
The
Network Engineer II (Tier 2)
provides advanced technical support to resolve complex network issues and ensure the stability, security, and performance of our network infrastructure. This role involves troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing network systems while working closely with Tier 1 support teams and cross-functional technical staff. The ideal candidate will handle escalated network issues, contribute to infrastructure projects, and support our VMware environment and disaster recovery (DR) operations, including co-location facilities and data backups. This position also involves mentoring Tier 1 engineers and assisting with documentation and compliance efforts. Key Responsibilities
Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies related to network infrastructure. Implement and maintain network security, including firewall configurations, VPNs, and applying security patches. Collaborate with the Director of IT to manage and enhance network security and compliance initiatives. Provide escalation support for complex network issues from Tier 1 support teams. Coordinate with third-party vendors for advanced troubleshooting and hardware replacements. Mentor and guide Tier 1 engineers through training and knowledge sharing. Design, implement, and support new network infrastructure projects. Participate in incident and problem management, including root cause analysis and permanent remediation. Perform routine maintenance: firmware upgrades, patch management, and network device configuration updates. Monitor network performance to ensure uptime, reliability, and optimal throughput. Troubleshoot and resolve advanced issues with network hardware, software, and connectivity (e.g., switches, firewalls, WAPs, VPNs). Maintain expertise across key platforms such as
Fortinet, Cisco Call Manager, Ruckus, and VMware. Administer Office 365 Exchange, including user accounts and email systems. Install, configure, and upgrade server and workstation hardware/software. Manage user/computer accounts in Active Directory. Administer antivirus and endpoint protection systems. Monitor and maintain
Veeam
backup solutions for data integrity and availability. Assist with DR testing and planning. Maintain and support the
VMware
environment, ensuring system performance and timely patching. Qualifications & Requirements
Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (equivalent experience or certifications may be considered). Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems and/or network administration. Industry certifications preferred (e.g., Fortinet NSE, Cisco CCNA/CCNP). Hands-on experience with:
Fortinet Firewalls Cisco Call Manager Ruckus/Fortinet switches VMware vSphere Veeam Backup & Replication
