Exempt This position has openings within the Fire Rescue Department and the Planning & Sustainability department. Essential Functions
The following duties are typical for this position. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if they are similar, related, or a logical part of this classification. Other duties may be assigned. Work with builders, owners, architects, engineers, and Development Services staff to ensure code compliance. Review and interpret building and structural construction documents for various project types, ensuring compliance with structural, accessibility, fire, and systems codes. Respond to requests for information, complaints, and code interpretations; advise and negotiate solutions with architects, engineers, contractors, and the public. Identify inadequacies in plans and reports, require corrections, and document compliance issues citing applicable codes. Research alternative products, materials, and construction methods for compliance; develop mutually acceptable solutions. Coordinate with other departments and assist inspectors in field reviews related to structural soundness and proper installation. Attend training to enhance technical skills and certifications, and learn relevant software for electronic plan review. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Structural Engineering, Fire Science/Technology, or related field, with five years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Required Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Georgia driver’s license; within one year, obtain ICC Building Plans Examiner, ICC Fire Plans Examiner, NFPA Certified Plan Examiner, or ICC Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner Certification. Additional Information
Preferred experience includes conducting Life Safety, Fire Site, Fire Structural, Fire Suppression, and Fire Alarm Reviews according to codes such as IFC, NFPA 101, NFPA 13, NFPA 72, and Georgia Amendments. About Us
