Georgetown Preparatory School seeks a Staff Accountant to handle accounts payable (AP) and payroll. This position reports to the Controller. Key responsibilities include maintaining accurate financial records, reconciling accounts, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and preparing for audits. The role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, proficiency with accounting software, and excellent communication skills to serve as a liaison for vendors and internal staff. Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable (AP): Manage the end-to-end processing of accounts payable, including invoice entry, PO matching, and payment workflows for checks, ACH, credit cards or wires. Reconcile vendor statements and maintain accurate vendor records (e.g., W-9s, 1099s). Analyze and resolve invoice discrepancies and communicate with vendors. Payroll: Support the preparation of contracts, stipends and other compensation as requested. Process and submit bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional payroll regulations. Review and input time records, salary changes, and benefit deductions. Financial Operations & Reporting: Perform daily financial transactions and maintain accurate accounting and financial records. Reconcile financial accounts monthly. Prepare journal entries for various transactions, ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. Assist with monthly and year-end closing processes, including creating accruals and reports. Collaborate with Human Resources department to provide guidance on payroll-related issues. Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and nonprofit-specific financial requirements. Assist with tax reporting, including quarterly filings and W-2s. Support annual audits by gathering documents and providing information to auditors. Required Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field. Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices (GAAP). Proficiency in accounting software, particularly Financial Edge. Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities for reconciling discrepancies. Knowledge of nonprofit fund accounting and accrual accounting. Ability to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulatory requirements. Ability to handle sensitive financial information with integrity and discretion. Serve as Backup to A/R Accountant. Other Duties as Assigned.
