Overview
The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Nevada has an opening for a Career Law Clerk for a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge. The Judge has chambers both in Reno and Las Vegas, but this is a full-time position located in Reno, and the incumbent will travel to Las Vegas with the Judge when needed. Responsibilities include reviewing and analyzing briefs and pleadings, monitoring the docket to streamline workflow, performing legal research, drafting legal and case-management memoranda and orders, discussing case issues with the Judge, generating first drafts of written and/or oral rulings and other bankruptcy-related writings, and coordinating settlement conferences. The applicant must be intellectually curious, a good writer/editor/communicator, a well-organized self-starter, and believe in the Oxford comma. The Judge would prefer the applicant to have a working knowledge of the Bankruptcy Code. Responsibilities

For appointment at a JSP Grade 11, an applicant must be a law school graduate from a law school of recognized standing at the time of appointment and have one or more of the following: Standing within the upper quarter of the law school class from a law school on the approved list of either the American Bar Association or the Association of American Law Schools Experience on the editorial board of a law review Demonstrated proficiency in legal studies that in the opinion of the judge is the equivalent of one of the above Experience in bankruptcy law and/or previous judicial clerkship For appointment at a JSP Grade 12 or 13, an applicant must also be a member of the Bar of a federal, state, or territorial court of general jurisdiction, and must possess the following year(s) of full-time legal work experience after graduation from law school: JSP 12 – one year of legal work experience JSP 13 – two years of legal work experience JSP 14 – three years of legal work experience, two of the years must be federal chambers law clerk experience This position requires mandatory electronic fund transfer for payment of net pay and a background check including fingerprinting.
