Overview

Position: Environmental Health & Safety Specialist – HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding. Team: O27 ENVRMT,HLTH,SAFETY. Entity: Newport News Shipbuilding. US Citizenship Required for this Position: Yes. Employment type: Full-Time. Shift: 1st. Relocation: No relocation assistance available. Travel: 10% - 25%. Virtual/Telework: No - Not eligible for telework. Responsibilities

Identify hazardous workplace conditions and take preliminary samples and measurements of hazardous forces and toxic substances. Remove hazards and/or protect employees by guarding, revising work procedures, and training or requiring use of protective clothing and personal protective equipment. Ensure workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standards and any labor agreement provisions; prepare and maintain required records. Participate in OSHA inspections and follow procedures related to citations. Investigate, prepare, and forward reports on injuries and fatalities as required. Conduct safe work procedures training courses.

Qualifications

Bachelor\'s Degree with 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master\'s Degree with 7 years of experience; Ph.D. with 4 years of experience. Equivalent to Bachelor's Degree may be used: NNS Apprentice School graduate; Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate; Associate\'s Degree or other 2-year program and 2 years relevant exempt experience or 4 years relevant non-exempt experience; Military Paygrade E-5 or above; High School/GED plus 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience; High School/GED plus 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (exempt or non-exempt).

Nice to Have

Electrical experience preferred. Heavy industry and/or shipbuilding experience preferred. Safety Professional Certification preferred.
