Job Description
The Wan Lab at the Bond Life Sciences Center is seeking applications for a Post Doctoral Fellow in the area of Computational Biology at the Influenza Systems Biology Laboratory and the Center for Influenza and Emerging Infectious Diseases at the University of Missouri. Our lab is affiliated with the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology, School of Medicine; Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, College of Engineering; Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine; and MU Institute for Data Science and Informatics at University of Missouri (MU). The Wan Lab currently holds more than $28 million in committed grant funding.
The lab is physically located at the MU Bond Life Sciences Center and focuses research on emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, especially influenza viruses and SARS-COV-2, by developing and applying integrated, multi-scale, and evidence-based approaches that combine laboratory, clinical and computational methods. The lab has access to the regional BSL-3 and ABSL-3 biocontainment laboratory at the Laboratory for Infectious Diseases Research. This position will be responsible for performing various duties necessary to further research on multiple grants.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include developing genome-based influenza and/or SARS-CoV-2 risk assessment algorithms, designing broadly protective influenza and SARS-CoV-2 vaccines using Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, modeling the impacts of immune responses on vaccine effectiveness, clinical outcomes, and transmission risks of virus infections, and/or studying evolutionary and transmission dynamics in individuals and populations.
The candidate will be responsible for recording all methods, results, and other relevant information in an organized manner as instructed by the Principal Investigator. The candidate will be expected to perform experiments, data analysis and manuscript preparation. The successful candidate should be highly motivated and is expected to work collaboratively within a team.
Shift: Regular hours, Monday-Friday with flexibility for weekend/evening hours as required for experiment needs.
