Provides supervision and direct care for youth in a residential correctional facility. Helps youth learn and apply methods to manage stress and trauma and behave socially. Maintains safety, security, and appropriate structure. Builds healthy relationships with youth and supports progress toward individualized treatment goals. May require on-call duties and travel. CAREER LADDER AND TRAINING

This position is in the TJJD career ladder for Juvenile Correctional Officers (JCO). Career ladder salary adjustments occur per policy (PRS.15.08) until the top level is reached. Pre-service training may be required for new hires or rehired employees separated more than 18 months. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Engage in competency-based training to coach youth under the Texas Model of trauma-informed corrections. Hold youth accountable and support learning of socially acceptable responses. Assess safety and apply appropriate intervention levels. Help youth identify stress responses and develop emotional self-regulation skills. Model self-regulation and remain calm in crises. Support youth in understanding treatment plans and building skills to meet goals. Coach youth to resolve conflicts and participate in Youth Service Teams. Provide a predictable schedule, with timely warnings and transitions. Monitor activities and behavior to ensure healthy engagement and appropriate role modeling. Observe and report significant conditions to staff; support aggressive/combative youth as needed. Maintain security, respond to emergencies, and conduct searches as required. Supervise youth across all daily activities and during transports; maintain records and ensure privacy. Ensure non-discrimination in youth treatment and complete required documentation promptly. Complete other duties as assigned in compliance with safety policies; expect up to 25% travel and shifts beyond 40 hours as needed. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be at least 21 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: college degree or coursework and relevant supervision or rehabilitation/treatment experience in youth or adult settings. Must pass pre-employment checks: drug test, fingerprints, criminal history, driving record, and Fitness-for-Duty assessment. Continued employment requires certification in TJJD Use of Force techniques and First Aid/CPR. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Typical physical demands include: ability to communicate, see, hear, handle restraints, lift/carry up to 45 lbs, stand/walk for extended periods, reach, push/pull, and perform actions requiring dexterity. Reasonable accommodations may be provided. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge: safety procedures, adolescent guidance, facility rules, behavior, child development, juvenile treatment approaches. Abilities: stay calm, build healthy youth relationships with boundaries, empathic communication, plan and implement youth programs, facilitate group activities, set and enforce limits, intervene and redirect, crisis intervention, document observations, transport youth, and work varied shifts, including weekends and travel as needed.
